Go with your heart, always. You've got to love what you choose.

Considering buying with cash rather than on finance this time - This spec comes out at ÂŁ37,190. Do you reckon I could haggle this to more like ÂŁ35k?

Cheers
You can get an base spec S Line Plus for 33.5k if you take out Audi finance, otherwise ÂŁ34.4k. This means your spec would be ÂŁ34.4k/ÂŁ34.9k with finance/without.

I know you mentioned the ride, but it really doesn't make any real difference imo.

The deals are through drivethedeal.com. You'll get a dealer direct to match, but you'll have to work very hard - At the moment a lot of dealers don't want to sell cars!

Decided to add moonlight blue to the spec above.

Went to a couple of main dealers today. First one completely uninterested. Second one I specked up the above after a test drive and asked for a10% discount to match the orange wheels price.

The response was you can't get that price, we can't match it, go and try and ring us back.

I'm in no rush so it will be interesting to see if they call me nearer the end of the quarter. Both dealers where busy with new registrations so may be more amenable later in the month. The first dealer had proactively contacted me to come in and sent texts offering trade in deals so a little surprising to see their lack of interest.

Have to say I love the cars and hate the dealers. All the back and forth with the finance people out the back and flat rate nonsense they try. Looking to buy on cash this time which clearly makes them less interested than on finance.
Sorry to sound so negative but I have just had four months with a courtesy Q5 in moonlight blue and it did absolutely nothing for the car. You would often look at it and think what colour is that.

I know colour is a personal choice but just as a random sample none of my family and friends liked it very much. you may well get that response when trying to sell it. I have always had black cars but went for the Daytona grey this time.

As for the finance... Tell them you want to finance the car and

A) They will show more interest

Image
You will get another ÂŁ1000 off at the moment (ÂŁ500 from Audi and ÂŁ500 from the dealer)

C) Pay it all off within 14 days of signing the finance (as is your legal right, you do not have to state why you are withdrawing from the finance) and you will pay around ÂŁ3 per day interest.

It's a no brainer for those in a position to pay off in full straight away.

My local Audi dealer did a mystery shop and got as far as being referred to a dealer - who turned out to be themselves. They had absolutely no intention of matching the price the broker was quoting.

Wow, that seems like a neat trick, I will have to investigate that further. Is that something you or one of your friends have done?

I have done this the last 4 times I have bought a car from a garage with the intention of doing it again when I pick up my new Q5 in 2 week.

When I was buying Zafiras ( I know, different class of car) Vauxhall did something called a Finance Deposit Allowance. If you took out a loan for ÂŁ1500 they would knock ÂŁ2500 off the price of the car. You had to keep the loan going for around 3 months to avoid problems for the dealer but, if you paid it off then, it cost you around ÂŁ300 to service the loan including set up fees so you were getting a net ÂŁ2200 off the price of the car for nowt.

I have just done it with mine. Collected on the 2nd and paid off in full on 11th. Paid ÂŁ30 in interest.

Under consumer Credit legislation you have 14 days to withdraw from a credit agreement starting with the day after you sign the agreement. Do not confuse withdrawing with early settlement as you will have to pay interest charges and the finance fee if you settle outside the 14 day period.

Obviously dealers are reluctant to spell this out (despite being legally bound too) so what they tell you is to pay around three or four payments and then settle early. This ensures that the dealer gets the commission from VW Financial services.

Any incentives such as dealer contributions / Audi contributions are deducted from the price you negotiate.

This is then the price the finance is worked out on with the added interest.

Once you withdraw (within the 14 day period) there is no contract / finance agreement in existence and you pay off in full the price you negotiated including the Audi / dealer contribution. These cannot be clawed back by either Audi or the dealer as they are nothing more than an incentive. The daily interest during the 14 day period is set in legislation and is around ÂŁ3.40 I believe.

Seems too good to be true but finance is where they make the money. I was checking the legal aspect to this and found a post on the Audi A6 forum, Some people were receiving ÂŁ5,000 Audi contribution if they took finance, which many did and then paid off in full. Now that's a result!

Missile

It was the current retail Q5 offer.

ÂŁ1000 contribution ,ÂŁ500 from Audi Finance / ÂŁ500 from dealer, (I only got ÂŁ500 as the dealer argued I had already got their ÂŁ500 in the discount, still happy though) on any Q5 ordered before 31st March and delivered before 30th June. I ordered mine last October delivered 2nd March.

No acceptance fee paid because once you notify them that you intend to withdraw there is no legal agreement in existence. In simple terms the agreement doesn't come into effect until 15 days after you sign it.

I will start a new post under general discussion as this is common knowledge on all other Audi model forums.

I have certainly had to work hard but have signed up for a deal and will post some details when I pick up the car shortly!

Carfile do around 9% no problems and no negotiating to do. Introduced to main UK franchised main dealer to confirm order and pay deposit to them direct. My time is too valuable to sit around in a showroom with an arrogant sales person who keeps disappearing to 'see the manager' to get another ÂŁ50 off! I have used brokers (and Carfile twice) for the last 5 new cars I've bought either for me or the Mrs. I don't understand why anybody goes into a showroom these days (apart from the test drive of course!).

I have recently used Orange Wheels - got a discount of just over 10% - process was very slick and easy, like Carfile (above) I was introduced to a main UK franchised dealer to confirm order and pay deposit etc. I did try to use the Orange Wheels quote to 'negotiate' with my local dealership (Glasgow Audi) however they would only stretch to a max of 5% discount so I voted with my feet...and wallet!

Now just playing the waiting game for car to be delivered!

Rickys11 - thanks for sharing your experience of Orange Wheels, am interested in using them myself in next couple of months. Did they offer to support part exchange with the dealer or is that down to the dealer you are introduced to?

Thx

Sorry cant comment on part exchange - I am handing back a company car - coming out of the car scheme which I have been in for last 3 cars as no longer the best option for me. I was referred on to Coventry Audi by Orange Wheels - they have been really helpful so far (hoping this continues). I live in Glasgow and Coventry Audi have agreed to pick me up from Birmingham Airport when I fly down to collect the car, also happy for me to get Car Seat delivered to the showroom (as 2 year old son will be coming down with me to pick up). I have also changed colour and a few options post original order which they have happily helped with over the phone - so can't complain re service so far.

To finish my thread I had to work pretty hard to get my car sorted.

Stage 1 - Bradford - test drove a silver SE and stated interest in ordering from new. Asked for 10% discount given Orange Wheels quote. I was told that you couldn't get that sort of deal. I walked. Think my big mistake was stating I was looking to pay cash.

Stage 2 - Enquiries over the phone to a number of local dealers including Harrogate and Wakefield who all seemed pretty desperate in terms of texts and emails to get some quarter end business. Stated what I wanted over the phone in terms of 10% deal from new but started to say I would look at some finance as it was clear none of the dealers where interested without finance.

Stage 3 - Spoke to Bradford and went in and pushed a more serious deal. I wanted to order from a local dealer rather than Orange Wheels etc given the cost of the car and was prepared to do a slightly lower deal to do so. Managed to get just under 10% off on a Black Sline PLus, put down the deposit, signed for finance (with a view to cancelling it within 14 days) only to told the next day the car had been sold. Not impressed given I had negotiated the deal and would have had the car in a week rather than waiting for a new build.

Stage 4 week of Bradford being unable to secure any Synter cars on the list of available cars in the group. Apparently there was an amnesty where all cars had to be made available for sale across the network due to the quarter end.

Stage 5 - Went to harrogate to have a look at a nearly new Sline Special Edition. I was keen to get rid of my A4 as it was due a service and two new tyres likely to cost over a grand as it was its 3 year service so break pads likely as well. Told Harrogate the story and they said if we can get you one secured today will you buy it from us. They secured me the Scuba Blue and it arrived 10 days later. I exercised my right to withdraw within 14 days given the ridiculous Hire purchase interest rate of 17.9%.

Learnings - as per my last Audi purchase - I hate dealers

I hate the stupid back office finance shenanigans. The uncompliant sale of finance. If they sold loans like the finance a car in bank they would be in serious trouble.

They were only interested if I took finance, offering to pay cash went down like a lead ballon. Going in on a weekday in a suit made a big difference.

I hate the constant pressure when collecting the car to rate them highly on the phone surveys post purchase. I will decide how good to rate them.

All in a good 4 weeks hard work to get it sorted. Worth it in the end.

Exactly my experience with the Sytner dealer at Leeds Audi - I paid a deposit on a car that didn't actually exist, booked a test drive in a car, turned up and it had been sold and the stupid finance games.

Next car will definitely be purchase through orange wheels or drive the deal.

Bradford Sytner couldn't even get me a car to test drive!

Sytner sales are quite hard to work with. They've lost two sales from me due to their "we don't discount RS/S models sir"

Think I'll be putting drivethedeal to the test.
