Hi,

Just joined the forum to do some research. I have a feeling I recognise a few handles on here from elsewhere. Kaine is that you in the Shropshire hills with your Treg?

Anyway got a Range Rover Sport TDV8. Considering a downsize for my imminant retirement in the Yorkshire Dales/Cumbria to a Q5 3.0 TDi SE Tiptronic. Not that I've got up close and personal yet or even driven one, but got some home work to do in the meantime. Only got me, wife and two small dogs to accommodate.

So I'm hoping you can all help me out please?

The only other car on my shopping list currently is LRs FL2. But I'm not entirely convinced by it, because it doesn't deliver all my wants as below or even come close! I accept there may have to be some compromise.

BUT I really want something nippy that can overtake with ease, reliable, cheaper VEL, ecconomical when driven sensibly, good tyre wear, cheaper tyres, can handle winter conditions with ease...so 4x4 is essential, bigger boot than FL2 without having to drop the seats, comfortable on country roads.

So can the Q5 meet my needs? And will any of the above wants give me any cause for concern? I'm assuming the S line is a no no for a country life style? Would the 2.0 TDi be too much of a drop in power after a 3.6 TDV8?

Many thanks for your help in advance.

Hi Josh
I was hanging around rrsport.co.uk, the wife put her foot down and said the rrs was a bit too big for her to drive, so we settled on the Q5, she did not want to lose out on power so we ordered the 3.0tdi

. Over the moon with it, no actual faults, they forgot to put the ipod interface in but after seeing my car the SD card slots and jukebox are so much simpler to use and hold loads more music (if I had any more that is)
The RRS we test drove had numerous niggles - how hard is it to build a car properly these days
So happy days
Order your Q5 NOW

Hi,

have been using this forum for a couple of weeks while I pondered the minefield of buying a lovely Q5 - thanks it's been great help
Ordered a 2.0 TDI SE manual today.
Decided yesterday to take the plunge and phoned around several dealers to get a test drive. Most didn't have one to test, however Manchester audi had a 2.0 litre diesel automatic - they said they would try and find one with a manual box as this was our preference. This proved fruitless but we decided to go ahead anyway. Come the day it turned out to be a 2.0 litre petrol automatic ! Bearing in mind the potential differences, we enjoyed the drive and decided that the Q5 was for us.
The salesman, Keith was very good, no pressure and we struck what I considered a reasonable deal including the trade-in of our faithful S-max
Estimated delivery Oct/Nov - just have to wait it out now !!

Bob

Thanks for the welcome.

Going to have a look next week.

Thinking that we will go for a 3.0 Tdi SE with numerous extras. I will need your help with that.

dorosst,

When ordering I think it would be simpler to tick the options you don't want

Joking aside would you mind telling us how much it set you back. I could probably try using the configurator but the list is fairly long

Please make sure you check out the "S line Special Edition" as rob pointed out. A good saving to be made there.
Well there was no S line special edition at that time. At least i didnt have this option in the UK Calaloque. It will finally cost me around EUR52.500 to bring it in Cyprus ane pay all taxes. Cyprus is a heavy taxation country for cars.

Been a lurker for 3 months and just got round to registering now. Will try and get some photos of the car soon. Got car at end of March this year and already driven over 6000 miles. Spec is as follows .. Q5 2.0 TDI s-line .. Stronic, Ibis white, black pack, 20inch wheels, privacy glass, panoramic roof, DAB radio, electric boot lift, bluetooth phone, hard drive sat nav with ipod etc, rear side airbags, heated front and rear seats, tyre pressure monitoring .. think thats all but not sure !

Anyway, car has been fantastic and no problems so far.

Ive been following the site for well over a year.
Took the plunge and registered last night
Ordered Q5 2.0 TDI SE 3rd week in December 2009
Expecting to get the car mid June so I guess waiting time of 6 months is par for the course.
Thanks to all the contributors to the site,it has, I believe certainly meant getting the car correctly specced for us.

Hi Stradale - welcome to the forum - I'm pleased the site has proven helpful for you

Thanks Kaine,
Although feedback from my dealer would now suggest a June delivery is a tad optimistic. Looks like I will be getting a 2011 spec car and I have suggested to dealer that if delay runs much beyond mid July I will be willing to hang on for car to registered as a "60" car on 1st September

Hi All,

After many months of research and reading many threads on this forum I have finally taken the plunge and ordered a Q5. As this was my first new car purchase it certainly was an interesting ordeal and thought it may be handy to give some feedback on the overall experience.

First off was the test drive at Stockport Audi, luckily they had a 2.0 TDI S-Tronic in to test, which was the one I was interested in. Following the lovely 1 hour test drive, I returned to chat to the dealer with my mind pretty much made up to discuss figures. Unfortunately the dealer seemed less than keen to take my money. He commented on how good the car was and was then happy to take the keys and see me on my way. It took me to pretty much spell out to him that I wanted to buy one. After going through the various spec and options the dealer noted that they will prepare a quote for me. So their quote was list price no discount and a 6 month lead time. I then proceeded to contact other local dealers, all with the same response, no discount and 6 month lead time. Some local dealers did not even bother to return my phone calls / e-mails to provide quotes. I then contacted a number of brokers such as ukcarbroker.co.uk and bettercardeal.co.uk, both could offer some 9% off the list price with ukcarbroker.co.uk offering a 6 month lead time and bettercardeal offering a 9 month lead time. To see if one local dealer could get anywhere close to these figures I popped in to Cheshire Oaks Audi. The staff there were really helpful and much better than many dealers I had previously contacted; however, they could not get anywhere near the broker discount, saying that brokers get massive discounts due to bulk orders etc. The dealer did try to scare me off the broker method, saying that my delivery date will be pushed back and back, customer service with the selected dealer will be poor and should I have any warranty issues, then I have to take it back to where the car was originally purchased. Having read many reports on this forum on going the broker route and a good friend purchasing a TT via a broker I decided that all will be fine. So it was to be the broker step. I contacted the broker to confirm my order, they were really helpful and clear on the processes to complete the order. I paid my broker fee and within a few days the Audi dealer contacted me to confirm my order. Deposit was taken with the Audi dealer and all costs and delivery date confirmed. The broker fee was taken from the total car purchase cost as this was paid by the dealer. The only initial issue has been the dealer not being that great in getting back to me with my queries on various issues on the order, i.e. confirmation of sport suspension, issues of purchasing the sound pack etc. But overall they have been at hand to answer my queries. Still a while to go, but fingers crossed all will be grand.

Dids - welcome to the forum

I like this bit

...........customer service with the selected dealer will be poor and should I have any warranty issues, then I have to take it back to where the car was originally purchased.

Hi all,

I ordered a Q5 TDI SE 170 at the end of May and have been quoted a delivery of approx 20th October, can't wait to get my hands on it. I test drove an S-Line model with a manual gearbox as they didn't have any other models available. I'm away from home at the moment but my wife got a follow up call today to say they are still expecting an October delivery.

Hi Markate - and a warm welcome to the forum

That delivery estimate looks good - hope it works out like that.

Thanks Kev,
I'll keep the forum updated on the delivery date, I'm half expecting the date to slip but there again you never Know.

John
My pleasure John,

I know it's early days, but there does seem to be a ***** appearing in the clouds here - you're not the only one to report earlier than expected delivery dates. I've had it on very good authority that extra shifts have been put on the production line and that a new delivery system has been put in place. Fingers crossed.

Cheers,

Kev
