There is a expert S-tronic and who wants to remove the catalyst, in addition do not yet know the difference between manual transmissions and S-tronic LOL

Back to my original point about ESP (although the interim conversations have been interesting..) I was able to take mine on a private road with about 4/5ins of "fresh" snow. The car was slightly better with the ESP off, puts it into "off road mode", seemed to grip somewhat better with less spin. Where the snow was thinner or slushy, more usual road conditions, it was better with the ESP left on. Not very scientific but good to be able to practise. Standard Dueller tyres.

On another note I want to get cruise control retro fitted. I have seen various ads for this. Can anyone recommend a company in N London/Herts/Bucks area? I assume this is cheaper than getting Audi to do it and they all guarantee genuine parts.

Thanks
In answer to your question give these a go http://www.satnavsystems.com/main/products/audi/q5/

Speaks the camel lover who:
thinks Audi do not have the resources to design a 2.0TFSI engine.
doesn't know removing catalyst will release more BHP
doesn't know deisel engines have glow plugs
thinks S Tronic transmission is fitted to all performance Audis
I've written and I repeat: I do not hate you
I cannot hate people
Where did you first spout that drivel?

Spijun,
I can do what I want and when I want, I DO NOT HAVE TO EXPLAIN TO YOU WHAT i DO!!

I work with many Eastern Euorpeans and fully understand the way the conuminication comes across but I have never come across someone like you!!

I see you may save all the posts so please reinstate it with my blessing as I have nothing to hide from anyone.

I am editing this post as I didn't reply to your question just to keep you from irritating my Sherrifs badge.

I made the statement regarding the tyres as may other manufactures had not developed winter tyres, hence Vredestien being the best on the market. But as you have mentioned many times you have driven (drover) may cars and tyres so you may agree in this giving the option of the tyres on the market which was suited for road use without the use of STUDS OR CHAINS.

I believe that keeping ESP on in the snow is better solution. It keeps you a bit on safe side for unexpected. In the contrary, trying to have some fun in the snow, in controllable conditions (track, I want to drift) swithing it off might make perfect sense. Also bear in mind that switching ESP off is not really switching it off, but reprogramming it to off-road mode, so it is still active, but working differently. I'm not sure how it is in MY'13, but in '11 off-road mode does not equal to driving in snow...
On winter tires, well, there are good summer tires and bad wither ones... Personally I'd never drive in winter on summer tires. For many years I was driving in heavy winter conditions and I know the difference. Obviously in most cases you can drive in the same conditions on summer ones, but you will know the difference. And in some cases winter tires can save your live, where summer ones would not do. Your choice.

P.S. I found this forum few years ago at the time I started to consider to buy Q5. I'm visiting it almost daily and usually I'm able to find tons of useful information and advices here. But recently, frankly speaking, I become embarrassed to read some post in this, once reputable and personally I think THE BEST Audi Q5 dedicated, forum. I understand that people might disagree and sometimes, due to language barrier (also for me English is not primary language) might understand some post to be offensive, directed against them. But this forum is to share our Q5 passion, not personal animosities. I am, and I'm sure that most of other members share my opinion, not interested in such discussion! This is not why we come here. If you really need to fight, please make it off-line, via PMs. Please, please do not destroy this community!

I had a little chuckle this morning. It's chucking snow down here but i had to go out to fill up and buy some food. As I pulled into the garage the forecourt was covered in snow and the SUV in front of me merrily slid past the empty pump and down the slight incline as he tried to turn into it and then he floored it so that his wheels were spinning. So I'm afraid I took advantage of his lack of traction and ability and went to fill up.
We had a chat and a laugh about his summer tyres as he only had to wait a minute for a pump.

So so far I have no complaint about these All Season tyres.

Seems much like a lot of 4wd drivers around her thinking that 4wd will allow them to stop quicker. I've witnessed about 3 overshoot the junction at the end of our road. We popped out in the Q5 yesterday and I was surprised how much grip we had on compacted snow; full beans in 2nd at 10mph and no sign of the tc light, it was noticeable that this car is a lot heavier than my previous cars when it was time to stop though, glad for the winter tyres.

Proof that 4x4 with normal tyres are still no good in the snow! 2wd with winter tyres will still be overtaking these!

Although lots of SUV's and tough off road lookalikes are now actually 2wd (including Land Rover)...

Yes looks and skill levels can be deceptive.

Thought I might struggle with the S-Tronic using engine breaking but its so much easier than a manual to use the steering wheel paddles to use the gears to slow you, hardly touched the brakes over the last two days. Very impressed.

I find in the 3.0 that there is a lot of engine braking just by lifting off the accelerator and yes the paddles are brilliant for dropping a gear and staying off the brake. A little touch of the brakes warns the car behind what you are doing and hopefully they'll twig?

Range rover and land rover are ALL WHEEL DRIVE, the power is sent to all wheels equally, they are not classed as 4 wheel drive vehicles as if you lose traction on each axle you will still be stuck, the only thing that locks the front and rear axle is the 3
rd diff which is mounted in the transferbox.
To obtain 4 wheel drive the axles will also have to have diff locks this will then be called "cross lock" then the drive to all wheels will be equal even if 2 wheels are spinning on opposite axles.
The only original 4 wheel drive that was produced was the Merc G range which had diff and cross lock axles. the rest are locking up with ASR this will brake the wheel that is spinning to assist in traction.

You'd like to think everyone else would be doing the same but sadly people seem to have forgotten how to drive in the snow!

I am confused (easily done, some say!).

On the XC60 forum there was a poster who got really agitated when people used to confuse AWD and 4WD. The XC60 had AWD and, according to him, it would normally be driven by the front wheels unless they started slipping in which case the Haldex coupling would come into play and transfer power to the rear wheels. 4WD he said was all wheels driven all the time.

So which definition of AWD is correct, or does that vary depending on the manufacturer?
