Just had the 2nd variable service done this week which seemed to go well until I checked the oil level on the MMI when I got home in the evening and it was just above the 3/4 level. I also used my T40178 dipstick tool to check that the MMI reading was not an error and it was well below the upper level. I contacted the dealer by e-mail attaching a photo of the MMI display expecting them to respond to say it was an oversight and offer to top it up or send me a litre of 504/507.
Their response was that "MMI display is for information only and is not an accurate measure of the amount of oil in the engine" "we have calibrated oil filler equipment & a set amount of oil to put in each engine" "overfilling the engine with oil is as bad as a low oil level"
My understanding is that the MMI is supposed to give an accurate indication of the oil level otherwise why does Audi not fit a dipstick but the response from the dealer suggests this is not the case. Or just a fob off from them to cover up a sub standard workshop practice?
Opinions please.
