Service Oil Fill Level

Just had the 2nd variable service done this week which seemed to go well until I checked the oil level on the MMI when I got home in the evening and it was just above the 3/4 level. I also used my T40178 dipstick tool to check that the MMI reading was not an error and it was well below the upper level. I contacted the dealer by e-mail attaching a photo of the MMI display expecting them to respond to say it was an oversight and offer to top it up or send me a litre of 504/507.
Their response was that "MMI display is for information only and is not an accurate measure of the amount of oil in the engine" "we have calibrated oil filler equipment & a set amount of oil to put in each engine" "overfilling the engine with oil is as bad as a low oil level"

My understanding is that the MMI is supposed to give an accurate indication of the oil level otherwise why does Audi not fit a dipstick but the response from the dealer suggests this is not the case. Or just a fob off from them to cover up a sub standard workshop practice?

Opinions please.

I would respond with a picture of your dipstick tool (ooh err Aunty

I had the same issue and same response after my service last year (Edinburgh Audi) They sent round one of the managers with a litre of oil for me. Apparently the MMI doesn't reflect the overall oil in the tank and a lower than expect level on the MMI can relate to a teaspoon of oil.

It made sense to me at the time but thinking about it again now, if that's true then the MMI oil indicator is a waste of time.

Thank you for the feedback,
I had expected the same response as Dogzyboy in terms of providing a litre of oil but sadly this was not the response from the dealer. The fact that the calibrated dipstick tool confirms the sump is not full implies that the MMI oil indicator is not completely wrong. I am currently awaiting a response from Audi UK on the matter given the dealers response which, as Missile so directly put it, smacks of the waste product of a male cow.
I will disclose the dealer's name once I have had a response from Audi UK.

I agree if the engine go's pop and it's showing oil on screen that's Audis fault.

I had the opportunity of a VIP tour round Abz Audi service centre. I was truly amazed at the facilities available. The oil is dispensed from a communal tank. It seems unlikely that the unit would dispense the wrong amount. I suspect the technician made a mistake and keyed in to dispense the incorrect volume, possibly for the last vehicle?

He ought to have checked the MMI reading during the service?

It would be interesting to have feedback from OP
