As the title - considering a new sq5 and trying to guess how values of none euro 6 compliant (pre 65 reg) may hold up in the coming years as the clean air zones get introduced.

The pace that things are changing, will 13/14/15 plate cars see savage depreciation in the next year or so - if so is it worth paying a bit more up front to get the euro 6 models?

Thanks Mark.

TBH I can't see Euro 5 models being heavily penalised anytime in the near future but who knows? For peace of mind I'd say go Euro 6 with adblu if possible, particularly if you're planning on keeping it for a while.

Unless you can justify the high annual mileage (reason for having a diesel) then I would not even consider buying another one. I had been driving diesels continuously from as far back as 1993, so I was a diesel convert for life.

I part exchanged my 63 plate Euro 5 F25 BMW X3 30d M Sport for an 8 month Audi Q5 2.0 TFSI Quattro. I cannot see anyone being penalised for running one, so if you have already seen the capital depreciation, then it might make sense to carry on running it.

We walk past a Suzuki garage most days and a know them well and they had taken 2 Euro 5 BMW diesels in July last year. We asked them last week what had happened to them (gone from forecourt) and it appears that had not had one enquiry and had sent them to auction.

From experience it means little on how clean the latest diesels are, it is the public's perception of them (diesels) that matters and governs sales. Just ask Jaguar Land Rover.

I think a lot will depend on where you are and where you drive.

In a couple of months, London's congestion zone will add a ÂŁ12.something daily charge for pre-Euro 6 diesels. This is on top of your congestion charge and parking. I think later on in the year, this will be expanded to an area bordered by the North and South Circulars.

Can't be long before other cities follow suit (some might already be ahead of London). As mentioned above, it's not actually about the figures but the perception. When we bought a SH diesel A4 Estate car the hierarchy in terms of cost was the diesel estates were most expensive and petrol saloons were least expensive purely down to demand.

I can see those pre Euro 6 cars (like our 1.4 plate 3.0TDi) suffering a similar fate.

I don't do a big mileage but I wouldn't dream of changing the bitdi in favour of a 2.0 petrol. I've got a focus ST3 with similar power output to the Q5, it's pretty god fun in a small car (almost as quick as the SQ5) but I genuinely don't think it would give anything like the same smile factor in a heavy SUV? Fuel consumption (in the Focus) is about 8 -10mpg less than my SQ.

The SQ5 (diesel) takes some beating if you're looking for 'bang for bucks', Euro6 if in budget.

Thanks guys. Yes I don't really drive in big cities, so the charging won't affect me, but my worry is major depreciation affecting the none euro 6 cars (which still seem to be circa ÂŁ20 -ÂŁ25k). Not a problem on a 10k car to drive into the ground, but.....

I also see that a lot of sq5's seem to take a long time to sell these days, but asking prices seem to remain firm - are they starting to look falsely high?

Dieselgate is a right pain in the ***!

May I suggest you buy the car you want and don't agonise over perceived issues when you come to sell.

After 08th April: To drive a euro 5 car into London say 100 days per year, the cost of ULEZ would be ÂŁ1,250.
Those who can afford to buy an SQ5 and choose to drive into London will be able to afford that.

Think I'm right in saying that some of the pre adblu models are also Euro 6, not sure exactly when the changeover from 5 to 6 was but would guess 2015?

It's not dieselgate that should be blamed, it is shyster politicians treating us as if we are stupid while ripping us off .....................................

If you plug your registration in here it will confirm whether your car is euro 5/6 compliant and will/will not be subject to ULEZ charges> https://tfl.gov.uk/m...le?intcmp=32646
It is a nice earner for Sadiq Khan.
It sure is, fortunately won't affect me though, I took the car into central London about 30 years ago, never again, train or plane for me.

I used to live in NW9 (Colindale) and regularly drove into central London at the weekends. Not anymore. Use the Northern Line.

Having worked for a top investment bank in the City between 2005 and 2012 before running my own business, trust me when I say bankers could not afford this! It is just media hype!

You’re believing too much about what you read in the media there Missile! My colleagues and I used to work 12-13 hour days plus an hour and a half commute each way plus weekends. Have friends in other investment banks who are still there and no-one that we know earns anything like what is reported in the media.
