N1cky,

I think you should ask them to fit the extra fan for free. When I bought my Q5 (59 plate 170tdi) I had all sorts of arguments with the dealer about tow bars for our caravan. Would you want the risk of Audi not paying out if something expensive goes wrong with the car?

If Audi had retrofitted the bar, they would have fitted the fan.

Due to the shocking service I had in the dealer, I got the fan fitted for free. The standard price is about £1000 once all the extra parts and labour has been added.

Good luck!

I'm pretty sure that it wasn't until the model year 2011 that tow prep came as standard (this means that the extra fan and the tow bar wiring is already in place, it does not mean that it came with a tow bar though).

You would have been able to buy a MY2011 car from late summer 2010, so them saying that 2010 cars don't need it nearly makes sense.

My Wife's Q5 is a 59 plate, registered in Jan 2010 and did not come with tow prep.

You should probably count yourself lucky that you don't have the 3.0 diesel - that needs a bigger alternator too!
