Fitted the roof box on the OEM bars - seems to sit slightly nose up, as such it moves quite a lot up and down when travelling. I can't see anyway of reducing it as the box is as far back as it will go without interfering with the boot lid 'spoiler'. Further forward it will only create more movement.

Roof box is a brand new Yakima Skybox 16. It did the same last year with this ancient Thule Alpine box. Is this a Q5 roof bar flaw, I can't see any other reason, the bars are exactly the right way around.

I fitted the OEM roof bars over the weekend and then the roofbox (Yakima Skybox) which seems to sit a bit high at the front. The front flexes up and down a lot at dual carriageway speed.

Anyone else have this roofbox issue? The box is set as far back as is possible without catching the spoiler when the boot is open.

Posted this 3 times now and for some reason it keeps disappearing?

Anyway, OEM roof bars correctly fitted and a new Yakima Skybox Pro fitted on top. The roof bar positions make the roof box sit slightly nose up. No way of altering as the roof box is only just clearing the boot spoiler when the hatch is open. As a result the roof box moves a lot up and down as it is being pulled through the air at a strange angle - anyone else experienced this?

At what speeds? I've not used a roofbox on the SQ5 but have on a variety of other vehicles and have experienced this at higher speeds - then I found out the TuV approval is only to 130kph (80mph)

Used a Thule roof box on a number of cars- not SQ5- with no issues. If the box is pointing upwards I'd be concerned that high wind speed is going to stress the fixing points and maybe even affect vehicle handling.
Only thing I can think of is your front bar is higher than the rear (spirit level check?) or the box is an unusual design. Would putting a spacer between the box and the rear bar be an option?

Sorry for 3 posts. I couldn't understand why it kept on moving from 'general discussion' I'm pleased it has moved to a quiet room - barely anyone visits 😂😂🙏🙏

I've also done higher speeds on the autobahn; just saying be aware that for most roof boxes (including Audi) the TuV approval is for a 130kph limit - if you are doing more than that and it all goes horribly wrong you are on your own

85-90 is no problem with the Audi roof box. I prefer to keep it in the 70s tbh so I'm not burning too much fuel.
(All on the continent of course)
I bought the Audi box, sold it without using it. You couldn't open the panoramic roof with the box on, seems an oversight from Audi. I didn't want a Thule as although they are functional, we've had a Thule Alpine for years which was ok, I just think they have been overtaken by better roofbox manufacturers.

Yakima being one - Which has some outstanding reviews. But most people wouldn't have heard of them apparently? Dual hinged, triple locking scooped rear so you can fully open the tailgate. Complete with a quick fit system that takes about 2 minutes to fit. The issue seems to be the roof bars and the angle the box sits on them - They've made it to St Anton, so they should make it home, but I think it will require looking at the bars.

Kamei are also a very good make ...................

Looking at the roof line on the car, the front of the roof rail is quite a bit higher that the rear. Looks like every box will point up unless there is an extension available for the rear bar

This was the Audi variant I had for the Q5. As you can see the cut outs which make the box sit below the bars and the box jaws for clamping means you cannot open the panoramic roof.

I have the same box. I just checked from outside the car - you can fully open the roof, albeit the edge of the sunroof does touch the bottom of the box briefly at the end of its tilt travel (it won't damage either as it is a light touch against soft-ish deformable plastic), before sliding back without contact. at the normal tilt-to-vent position, it doesn't touch. Why you would want to open the roof fully with the box on escapes me though.

Strange, mine wouldn't open! Didn't like the box much anyway. Yakima is a much better box - for me. The roof gets opened because we're in St Anton and it's bloody hot!

When our roof touched, it would auto close again. No amount of moving it would resolve the issue. Got my money back and upgraded to the Yakima
