Morning all....

I've got some replacement front brake pads for my 2013 Q5.
(Apparently it has the brembo type calipers - but not the red ones).

I've taken the old pads off and they have 2 spring clip type things stuck to the back of them which sit into the hole in the pistons.
The new pads I've bought don't have these clips on.
After a bit of searching, everyone tells me the new pads I've got are the correct ones.
Also - looking at various images online, none of the brake sets I've found have pads with these clips stuck to the back.

Does anyone know what these clips on the back of the pad are for, and if they are needed?

Thanks
Ian

Get your Service book out of the car and then enter the build codes into this site:

http://prsearch.planetvag.com/

It will give your front and back brake PR codes. Using this you can check you have the correct parts.

I changed my Front Pads and Discs last week and the metal clips located one of the Pads into the caliper piston - I'd be a bit concerned if the replacement parts don't match the originals exactly in form and fit

Edit

My particular model of Q5 has two PR variants for the front & rear brakes - without this code its impossible for the parts vendor to guarantee the correct parts. (Unless of course your are buying directly from Audi who have this data on your car).

Quick update - the "clips" I referred to were indeed anti-squeal clips.

Other than the clips, the pad was identical in form and fit.
I have peeled this clip off the old pads and is just just glued on to the pad.
It can't be re-used, but it is also not a necessity.

With the clips on, you are unable to remove the old brake pads without removing the caliper.
The pads without the clips on slide in and out with the caliper in place (the whole idea with this style of pad/caliper).

Thanks for the help.
