Executive office got back to me and again advised problem is a "Characteristic" of the vehicle, in disbelief I thought I would contact the dealership that used to service my Q3, spoke to a VERY helpful service manager who was aware of the problem and promised to get back to me, he came back and played the brake pedal sound back to me as stored on the Audi product bulletin system they use, and confirmed to me that the TPI for this problem is TPI 2049740-1 which was raised on the TPI system 6th Dec 2017 and is still ongoing and not resolved yet ! he explained that the - 1 number increment as information is added to the case and as its -1 is still being investigated, there is another TPI out for the brake peddle clunk which is the ABS clunk at 25 mph which is a "characteristic" which we are all aware and agree is a characteristic TPI2045366-4 , the service manager went on to say he thinks Audi UK have got their wires crossed on this issue, I explained this to Audi UK and now waiting their response to confirm.
Thanks for the update PRT ????????

Thanks PRT, that is really useful information and more encouraging. It outrageous that it wasn't put on the system until 6th December with the months this has been running. Perhaps they were waiting for a critical mass. It does perhaps explain why my dealer said they didn't know about it when I asked them to check my car before delivery but then did know about it on the day I actually picked it up on the 7th December. It was 500 miles later before my problem arose though.

They also pointed out the 25mph ABS click which I have to say I have never heard.

So there are two issues with the brakes then?

1) ABS noise at 25mph which they now are saying is a characteristic, so I guess that means there isn't a fix as they think it's normal?

2) Issue with the break pedal? So does the pedal make noise as well as the ABS?

As far as I am aware they are two totally separate things. When I asked my dealer to check the car out before collection they said they could hear the 25mph ABS priming click which was normal and all the cars did it and does it once each time you drive the car off and it reaches 25mph. As I said in the earlier post I have never heard it myself. (perhaps I am a bit deaf!)

The brake pedal clang is very different, very intermittent and from the earlier posts still being worked on by Audi (we all hope).

Only a personal view but I am doubting a recall but hoping for a fix for those with the problem. Audi exec office insisted I took the car to the dealer to have to problem confirmed before they would log it against my car. I doubt if they will want to spend money fixing cars that are not showing as having a problem. My view also is that there are many cars out there with the problem that owners have not reported. Mine is so intermittent I probably wouldn't have noticed it immediately had it not been for this forum.

Clive I agree in such that I bet there's a fair few out there who don't realise the issue as they don't ever frequent forums etc....

Saying that I do get tempted to ask people when I see a new Q5 ☺

Funny you should say that. I did exactly that in a supermarket car park last week. The owner said he had heard something occasionally but thought nothing of it. Left me feeling a bit guilty that I had possibly taken the shine of their new car.

Has anybody on the forum access to Audi TPI's, Audi exec office got back to me today and still going down the line tinny pedal clunk is a characteristic, even though I quoted him TPI 2049740-1, they advised me this system is used between the dealers and technical not themselves and the customer, rapidly loosing the will to live ! Would love to have a copy to present to the Execs office.

Quick suggestion guys when I've been involved with audi UK in the past I've insisted on getting full names of everyone I speak to. Then email them all on one group chain. So if you are all getting different answers collate the names of the people you speak to and send them all a group email quoting each other. This has forced people to talk internally rather than one case manager not knowing what another case manager is saying. If you push hard enough they will provide their surnames.

This cannot be complicated, there is only one moving brake pedal, connected to brake master cylinder.......has anybody actually looked under the dashboard to see what is happening and "feeling" by hand where the clunk comes from.

If I had the clunk I would investigate the sound myself.
