Hi All,

SQ5 on order
Image
- cant wait! May delivery.

I could not help but notice the mixed reviews of Audis Drive Select at over 200 quid is it really worth it?

I have seen you tube videos of its functionality when it comes to changing the engine note (comfort to dynamic)

Without it, how does one differentiate the sound in an SQ5??

in my S3 it tightens the the steering up in dynamic etc... same in the SQ5?

Thoughts appreciated...

Without ADS, S mode makes steering heavier, activates the sound actuator and adjusts the change points on the S Tronic box. With ADS you can choose mix and match which options you want. I seldom use ADS and it is an option I could happily live without.

On a 50K vehicle, another ÂŁ200 is not a lot. It is your money = your choice. If you use it on your S3 then it is an option you would want on an SQ5.

On my 2.0l TDI it does seem to tighten up the steering in dynamic, good for winding country roads, but that's so rare I usually forget about it.
Can't say about exhaust tone on SQ5, but on mine it's a bit of a waste of money.
It's another of those things, like HHA which should just come as standard, even if they put the prices up a bit.
Too much confusion and mis-information out there about these two non-costly options.

You want it, for the money it fills a switch blank on the dash too - as Missile has already said it's barely worth worrying about in a ÂŁ50k car. I wouldn't buy an SQ without it - only having Dynamic steering and exhaust mode in transmission 'S' would fast become annoying for me....I rarely drive mine in S mode, its quicker than just about everything else in D....

I am very in favour of it having spec'd it on my car and had a demo SQ5 for a week without the option.

Having to keep in full dynamic mode to get exhaust noises means you get the gearbox in sports mode which is snatchier changes and not to my liking.

Having ADS lets you keep gearbox in whatever mode you want but have dynamic sounds Yes you may set up your individual mode and leave it there but you do then have the option to easily change modes and noises as you want to and I do occasionally want the quieter more discrete option.

For the money go for it .

nobody mentioned here about the suspension setting..
On mine, the drive select individual mode allows settings for steering, engine, and suspension.
I never bought the car new, but if all that is really only a ÂŁ200 option then I'd definately spec it, I use auto and dynamic modes daily.

Standard drive select doesn't allow any damper adjustment.
If you do have that, you must have paid another ÂŁ600-odd quid for it, or somebody did if you didn't buy new

I assume we are talking about damper control?
If so i have MR on the R8 and RS5, it's not an option for the SQ5 - the problem with the R8/RS is the lack of control so to speak, you only have two modes. Sport removes your teeth and snaps your spine as you hit pot holes, but in fairness the normal setting is pretty balanced.

ADS just doesn't give you any real control it's on or off, with the system. The newer cars are a little better but i'd like more a BMW feel to the option. For the SQ with it not being a sports car it would be good to have air suspension and ride height setting.
