Quick question.
I have browsed several posts relating to drive select and am asking myself a question many seem to have wrestled with..
Should I have added Drive Select as an option on my new SQ5? The test car I drove recently didn't have this option so I don't really know what I'm missing.

Personal choice,but I'm glad I specd it as it gives many options of driving style,and optional dynamic sound without having to have gearbox in sport mode,when I drive I'm in dynamic most of the time ,but if I have passengers who'd prefer a smoother ride I have in comfort mode,I never use economy ,I tried it 4 a wile but it's such a sluggish drive,and zero fun ,I would advise to spec it,I'm sure it would b a deal breaker for resale to a lot of customers

Yep spec it as SQ-Beast said. I use Individual to keep the exhaust sound on while pottering around and I don't want the gearbox in sport. Comfort mode for the long motorway drives and Dynamic when I want to be an all out hooligan!

Meant to add, I can see that there is an aftermarket mod that can add ADS to cars that are equipped with the right hardware. Would be interested to hear from anyone who has done this to the SQ5 and what they think, how much did it cost? I am slightly concerned that it might affect warranty etc.

Like Missile i had it installed via VAG for £20, doesn't give you all the features of factory fit but its worth doing. Very easy job so dont worry you haven't lost out

Wilf - Is it a simple exercise to restore back to factory spec if needs be?

Very easy. Plug in the lap top and reverse the process with a few key strokes on VCDS.

I'm thinking in case it's going in to Audi for service etc. Is it something that is frowned upon? I can't see why, but in the event of any warranty work it can at times be prudent to have a totally bog standard, as bought car rather than something that;s been 'tinkered' with. I treat car dealers as I have found them in the past 20 years, and most (including my local Audi dealer who I have avoided this time) have tried to wriggle out of one thing or another.

Mine had warranty and service work carried out and its not an issue. You can only tell its not been factory fitted by the build sheet and the there not being an ADS button on the dash. Would take a blind technician!

Gimmick big time. You use it about 4 or 5 times in the first week, thats about it
The switch is the best part of it, you remove the huge ugly blanking plate - just buy the switch and throw it in..

On the poor man's Q5 I don't actually notice much difference in ride quality. Same with my last Evoque with dynamic ride etc. waste of money IMHO!

I just find going into dynamic from comfort nicely tightens up the steering.
Good for winding country roads,
has zero impact on suspension or ride quality

My main interest is in retaining the fantastic growl in all driving modes!

It's true, once the steering is set to Dynamic mode (makes it 'weighty') and the exhaust is in Dynamic top avoid having to drive in Scamper mode which is frankly far from subtle for the passengers you tend to leave it alone. Even Eco mode actually makes zero difference to the fuel economy too. Set and forget.

Totally essential on an SQ5. My car has it but a loaner I had recently did not, no control over exhaust noises without it so I would always spec.

There is no difference in ride quality.

And thats why its pointless, without ride control or dif control it seems limp waisted lets say....

I had it fitted and rarely use it - the standard setting is fine, although 'comfort' is nice for long motorway journeys. I then forget which mode I am in.
