Hi all,

Thanks to the Audi VIP service I was able to test drive an A6 allroad with the same engine as the SQ5 for two days.

I wanted to find out the difference in ride comfort between the two of them

I don't want to go into too much detail, but I can summarize as follows

A6 better than SQ5 in terms of:
- ride comfort... it is a huuuuuuuuuuuuge difference, in the allroad you hardly feel anything, the suspension is ultracomfortable
- back seat space (knee space)

SQ5 better than A6 allroad in terms of:
- the exhaust sound is much more pronounced in the SQ5; outside it is more or less the same, but inside the car it is much loader in the SQ5
- the gearbox is programmed more sporty in the SQ5; the S mode in the allroad is still pretty comfortable, while in the SQ5 it is quite brutal
- the trunk is much more practical in the SQ5; the cover in the allroad seemed even low quality
- slightly more interior width
- panoramic sunroof is much bigger in the SQ5

Basically both cars are equally fast to drive (the SQ5 a little faster), steering is the same.
The big difference is the sensation, more noise and hard suspension in the SQ5, quiet and comfortable in the allroad.
All the rest is more or less the same (dashboard, options...)

Anyhow, if you like the sensation of driving the SQ5 is best, if you prefer fast comfortable cruising, the allroad is your choice

Great read thanks mate. Did you change the wheels on your SQ5?

Looks like a Winter wheel pack to me Ray....

Interesting read, cheers. One area I would say that is much better in the A6 is the interior, it's a much classier place to be in my opinion. I also love the DIS in the A6. I would however always chose the SQ5 over the A6, just as well given I've order the SQ!

just an additional note, my SQ5 had a price tag in Belgium of 78.000 euro, whereas the allroad I tested was full option at a price tag of 105.000 euro...

It's similar here in the UK - the A6 is MUCH more expensive than the Q5. I guess as the Q5 is based on the A4 it is put in the lower price bracket - it makes it a good deal though as it is nearly as big as the A6 (just a bit fatter/shorter!)

Hi Robin would you consider the A6 Allroad as a replacement for your SQ5 next time? I agreed that list prices are much higher for the Allroad but in the UK you can secure ÂŁ10K discount on a new car v ÂŁ3000 or so on an SQ5 which makes the difference very small. I stuck with the Q5 again as the residual for our old model was so good but found that the old Alroad had a fantastic ride when I was lent one a couple of years ago.

Well, at this stage (given my age of 36) I still prefer the sportiness of the SQ5, but when I have been driving it for a couple of years, I most likely will change to the allroad

Interesting comparison, and it caused me take a look at the lease rates for the Allroad. Turns out it is a cheaper deal than the SQ5, and a definite bargain at the moment. However, I've been waiting long enough for a Q5 (SQ5) that I can't go through another change now.......
