Just looking for some sane options as it's driving me nuts. I've got a 2015 SQ5 TDI in mythos black that's done 33k miles with no problems. The car drives like a dream and always brings a smile to my face....but I've got an itch to change and paid a deposit over the phone for a new A7 3.0 tdi 272 black edition.

I'm being offered ÂŁ28k trade in and I'll need to pay ÂŁ3k to pay off the SQ5. The A7 is ÂŁ40k after Audi contribution of ÂŁ10k.

My worry is that although the A7 looks good it'll depreciate like mad and I'll be faced with finding a lot of money in 2 years to change.
But if I kept the SQ5 for another 2 years it would still be worth roughly ÂŁ2k more than a 2 year old A7 based on Auto trader prices and I would have saved the ÂŁ3k to pay off the SQ5.

Am I going mad....I must admit typing this I'm thinking wtf are you doing.

Bear in mind the new model A7 has just been released and the effect this will have on the future residuals of the current A7.

Yes that's why they've taken at least ÂŁ14.5k off the current list price of the A7. Drive the deal and carwow can't get near the offer.
The new A7 equivalent car would cost about ÂŁ60k which I wouldn't pay I'd go for the petrol SQ5 for a good bit less if I was spending that sort of money.

If your current car still makes you smile it's a lot of cash to splash unless you're certain the A7 is really what you want, and it doesn't sound as though you are?
I also think you might regret changing the bitdi for a single. Are there any good A7 bitdi deals to be had?

My 2p worth...personally the A7 has grown on me and I really like it.

The two things that put me off at the moment would be the

1) New A7 launched this week and I guess early 2018 on the road. Granted they've knocked off ÂŁ14.5k but you'll get a decent discount on the newer ones once they've been about a few months. The big Audi's lose big money fast.
Local dealers sold an A8 making just ÂŁ250 on it a few months ago.

2) I think (could be wrong) the tech on the A7 currently hasn't been updated and still sits on older Audi platform not the MLB platform which the new one would take on.
Not a massive jump from current SQ to current A7...

If you can...wait. Let the new one hit the roads and give it 6 or so months and I'm sure there will be decent discounts about.

I'm considering the new A6 Avant when it comes

I would personally stick with the SQ, as said already new A7 just launched and even with the discount you've negotiated big Audi saloons fall quicker than throwing a rock into a pond, and if your already having doubts I'd say go get the deposit back.

I'm just getting a used A6 Allroad BiTurbo. Same power output as an SQ5 - more space. It must have pushed the first owner up to almost ÂŁ70k OTR (based on the Audi configurator) as literally almost every extra available at that time has been ticked. Pan roof, exclusive leather and sports seats and inlays, Bose, heated front and rear seats, 4 zone climate, power boot, memory seats, folding mirrors, auto dimming, auto lights, cruise, park assist, reverse camera, blinds, privacy glass, heated washer jets and rear seat DVD screens. I'm sure I've missed something!!

If you want an A7 get a used one that the depreciation is already off - you can get some stonkingly great deals on a used car. That way you have no worry about the depreciation chasm.

I was amazed how "old tech" the A6 I had recently as a courtesy car appeared compared to the new Q5.
Not the one I'm getting. Surprisingly high tech. The MMI screen folds away too! Certainly better appointed than a Q5/SQ5 last generation.

Has it got a HUD?

I specced a black edition bitdi allroad at the same time as the SQ5, 21% discount on the A6 Vs 9.5% on the SQ5 plus made the 2 cars comparable price wise with my spec. Decided the A6 was just too big.

About the only thing it hasn't got. Probably wasn't available. Looking forward to having a big boot again! Football coaching at weekends mean it's a necessity.

I've just been in to see the A7 as I'd only seen photos of it so far.
It's a lovely car and the black edition in black looks fantastic....but I was expecting the Tech pack to be better it's only got the smaller screen.
For the moment I've cancelled the order and I'm getting my deposit back.
I think there's still a deal to be done if I want it but I'm going to think about it over the next few days.

Thanks for all the replies.

The current A7 has basically the same tech as the original SQ5.

I have a 17 plate A6 Black edition (with the fold away screen as you state) as a company car and it is worse tech wise as my 64 plate SQ5 as it does not have the HDD Sat nav as standard.

It does if it was specced by the previous owner! The cabin in the A6 I think having had a Q5 for over 3 years is far superior.

I agree it will have it if specced by the previous owner, I did state it does not have it as standard (which it doesn't).

I have both on my drive now and the tech is exactly the same (if specced the same), my comment was in relation to tech only not the cabin itself which I agree is better in the A6.

I don't blame you.

The A7 has started to grow on me. The only engine choice I would consider woukd be the Bi-Tdi unit. For me the best diesel unit on the market.

Rappy.
