Very close to ordering now but still struggling to decide between the diesel 2.0l (177) & and the 3.0l (245). I am defiantly going auto so wanted to ask opinions of those who had similar views prior to ordering, what you decided on and if you are happy with your choices now you have lived with them.
Such a big decision so don't want to get it wrong and short test drive doesn't tell me everything.
Thanks in advance for your imput

Welcome aboard, the larger engine is 3k more in price,so if money no object go for the 3 litre ,it will b more fun with that extra power, bit more thirstyer on fuel though 😄

Go with the 3 litre Q5, there is no escaping the fact that the car weighs the thick end of two tonnes and the extra torque makes the whole thing just smoother and quicker, fuel economy is probably, in the real world, going to be slightly better with the larger engine.

Once you have made the 3ltr option choice do NOT go and test drive an SQ...you will want one very badly indeed.

Very much depends on how your going to be using your car.
Longish urban and motorway journeys , probably better off with the extra power.
If you don;t travel much over 5 miles from your house, no point in it.

Probably of no help whatever, but I'm currently looking to upgrade my own 2.0 TDI to a new 3.0 TDI and am in negotiations. Don't get me wrong, my 2.0 is ok but I'm looking for something a little more responsive for swifter overtaking.

I'm biased, but go for the 3 litre V6. A great all round SUV, more than sufficient in power and a bit more ground clearance than the SQ5!

Interesting, I may be looking at the same deal in 6 months time.
Without being too nosy on figures, are Audi being reasonably generous with their part-ex offers, or a bit stingy?
I mean, do they make it worth your while to not have to consider putting it on Autotrader etc?

I drive 2.0 litre tdi and must confess what you have is more than enough power. Doesn't lag when you need to overtake and you get an instantaneous response from the engine when you squeeze the gas pedal. Just like yourself i was worried i would be getting an under powered car because of the way guys/gals praise the 3.0 engine on this site. Did my first 100 mile round trip from Essex to Luton yesterday and enjoyed every bit of the drive. The Q5 engine is built to eat motorway miles with ease.

Put your own car on auto trader and buy your new one through a broker for the best deal financially.
I saved 10k doing this rather than trading in to and buying from my local Audi rip off dealership

Ask for an extended test drive. I first test drove a 2.0 tdi which I thought was on until I test drove a 3.0. Different beast. As stated above if you have the money for a 3.0 you will not regret it. Mpg is very similar on both.

Broker to buy and getting private offer too but as well as Audi trade-in. When dealing via brokers I find that it's best to do the new car purchase only (10% discount) so that it doesn't complicate the figures. At the end of the day its cost to change. I'm looking at finding another 10K in Dec to swap which equates to 7k loss on 2.0 over 15 months and the other 3k to upgrade. What I'm reticent about at present is the new cleaner/more powerful 3.0 TDI (and 2.0 TDI) going into the Q5 next year and the new model the year after (made in Mexico - yuk). So - should I wait???? Ah decisions....etc...

Owned a 2 litre for three years, nothing wrong with it. It would get me from A-B no probs, plenty over overtaking just got too work the engine to get it going. Now I have a 3 litre (admittedly the SQ5) and it is much better the larger engine suits the car better. Now I realise the standard 3.0 is not the SQ but it's not that far behind so if it were me and the extra cost was not a problem I would not hesitate to get a 3.0.

I found the 3.0 I had for a month had very heavy steering compared to the 2.0. The manager reckoned it was down to the heavier engine.

Anyone know if this has been fixed in the later models with the updated steering software? It would certainly put me off the 3.0 if it was standard.

In fact I find the steering somewhat lighter than I'd expected (or wanted). Especially in comparison to other SUV's I have owned (and own).

The car I drove would be more than two years old now. I found the 2.0 MY14 steering lighter than the equivalent MY13 so it sounds as though the lighter steering has been carried across to the 3.0.

I test drove the 2ltr and found it slow going up the country hills where I live. So I went for the 3lt and its a great engine. 36+mpg as well.
