Hi all,

I'm new here so I hope I'm not braking any rules by saying this.

I am a big fan of retrofitting but on my Q5 I made a point of ordering everything I wanted from the factory. for those who think they've made a mistake by omitting something, just wanted to let those in the UK, and perhaps Canada know, that I can recommend two great contacts for sourcing and potentially installing pretty much anything you might want to retrofit.

The prices on the elctronics were surprisingly good - much cheaper than audi retail but all parts were genuine and above board. I had mmi 3+ with google fitted to my A5, and also the latest TV tuner and reversing camera. The installation looks completely factory and works exactly as it should do.

To give you an idea, mmi+ was ÂŁ1200 fitted. Prices may have changed now, but if you are interested, I can pass on the details.

I do not make money on this, and have no affiliation with the people other than being a satisfied customer. I am a patent attorney and make my money doing that, nothing else!

Adam

Welcome along Adam, I missed off the folding door mirrors when I ordered mine as I stupidly assumed they are standard on a ÂŁ40k car!

How much do you think for a supply and fit?

Hazzy Dayz (http://www.vwcruise.com/) can retrofit most things too.... had them fit an R8 rear camera into my TT RS

I think it's cheaper to go in Audi dealers

Genuine Vw/Audi Seat Storage Self Install -------------- Price: ÂŁ275

Price in the Audi catalog for two models: 46 Euro and 54 Euro
Eur 46x2 = Eur 92 = ÂŁ 75

Eur 54x2 = Eur 108 = ÂŁ 88

AUDI FOLDING MIRRORS
A4 8K, A5 8T, Q5, A6 4G, A1, A8 4H Price: ÂŁ850

It is the same for the folding mirrors: Eur 221x2 = Eur 442 = ÂŁ360

which is a lot cheaper than ÂŁ 850
Plus about Eur 120 = ÂŁ 97 for other parts

Of course plus installation but I think that there can be more than ÂŁ 100-150 maybe ÂŁ 200

Not in the UK its not. I rang 3 Audi dealers when I realised my mistake. 2 said it couldn't be done even though I sent them the link to threads on the internet where people had done it. Another quoted me ÂŁ1200!

Here you have a list of serial numbers you need

http://www.audienthu...ingMirrors.html

Here you can buy it all online and that genuine parts lot cheaper

Use gogle translator from the upper-right corner

Thats the same link I sent to the Audi garage and they maintained it couldn't be done!

Find someone else, because it is possible to do

Simply you need parts and VCDS program and that's all
VCDS or VAG-COM for coding

What if you have a traffic accident and broke a mirror ?????? It is impossible to replace or repair
Image

I do not want to be misunderstood but one Audi dealer tells you that it is impossible and another tells you that for ÂŁ1200 it is possible

How is that possible ?
They probably do not want to do it

There are two versions:
- electrically adjustable, folding and heated
- electrically adjustable, folding, heated and auto-dimming with memory function

Gareth from Hazzydayz is a great guy. He has got me out of a few scrapes in the past.

He does charge strong money but you are paying for the experience he has gained in doing the job many times before, knowing the pitfalls and also knowing the coding. am sorry to say it but once you start retrofitting audi parts to audis that are not specced that way from the fcatory, audi dealerships throw a hissy fit.

If your coding is wrong and you go in expecting them to make something you fitted work, the datacard for the car no longer matches the components you have fitted. They'll just plug in a diagnostics machine which will throw a load of error codes at you and they won't have a clue how to fix it. They are trained to pug in and press start, letting the computer do the work. It takes an experienced and understanding master technician to appreciate exactly what you have done before he has a chance of helping, if he's even allowed.

That's why the retrofitting market is run by independents. The best guy I know for that kind of thing is Nigel Hobden as mentioned above. He does everything Hazzydayz do, but is a fraction cheaper due to not having the levels of stock and the premises that they have.

You can more than likely do it cheaper if you have a go yourself. I found a way to install mmi plus with google maps into my A5 which was a fraction of the advertised price, but I'd be foolish to think that the coding would be so simple to not have to pay a premium to an expert somewhere to figure it out.

How much did pay for the MMI Plus out of interest?

What type of coding you think ??

Program VAG-COM or VCDS can do and change those codes are already available for you car model

That means you can not encrypt the ECU or something similar
Only you can enable hidden out all existing functions or correction thereof . When you try to load the wrong cod program simply does not accept
But just what is planned for your model cars

That's all you can make

To understand what I write here is a look at this

To access the CPU and flash you need special programs and devices that have only Audi dealers or authorized service
Everything is done online directly from Audi Ingolstadt

Special tools, test equipment and auxiliary items required: VAS 5052A, VAS 5903, VAS 5051, VAS 5051B , VAS 5053...........................

Unfortunately Spijun not everyone is technically / mechanically minded. I have spent nearly ÂŁ40k on my car, dont want to make a mess of it!

I absolutely agree with you

That's why I said genuine parts from Audi and not some Chinese copies or similar. Of course installation requires certain knowledge and experience

I just tried to explain that it is possible to do with the original parts and coding with VCDS which lasts 30 seconds, with which nothing can spoil on your car.

Good luck

Adam,

I have been looking at the MMI+ upgrade but have come across a stumbling block. Aparantly if you use an iphone you cannot have a data SIM in the dash and use an iphone via bluetooth handsfree. Could you confirm this?

sorry for the delay chopper.

I can confirm this. it is gutting but absolutely true.

the phone needs to run rsap - remote sim access profile, which apple refuse to support - think it was a sony invention.

If rsap works it allows the mmi to remote act as if it is the phone. I think it can use the phone's own data allowance and sets it up as a wireless hotspot too. That allows you to access google maps etc.

If using an iphone, you need to use a dedicated data sim card, but when in use it prevents you from using the bluetooth on the phone as the headunit is acting as a phone when the card is installed.

To use bluetooth, you need to remove the sim card.

I had heard that audi would be altering the firmware in the future so that with the sim card in place, you can still access another phone via bluetooth to get around the lack of rsap compatibility in the iphone, but a)I'm not holding my breath and b)you'd still need a sim card if you wanted google maps to work.

Not bothered about paying ÂŁ5 / ÂŁ10 a month for a data sim but what a ridiculous situation.

If you want an iPhone you cant have the latest Audi tech! How short sighted of both Audi and Apple for not reaching a workaround.

Thanks for this mirekmal but I'm on a 4S so not suitable for me.
