Mines is a 2009 with MMI 3G as well, I guess it's the std 3G version, and not 3G Plus, which was only from 2012 onwards?

2 quick questions for Bm7y or other knowledgeable member.
After a bit of time I have now been told by the dealer after discussion with their workshop techs that 2014 Q5 models cannot have the foot-well lights set to be on and dimmable when the lights are on as was the case on my 2 previous A6 cars although they tell me that older Q5's had this facility through the MMI menu.
I also asked them if the CD naming facility which both A6's also had could be activated but they said that this also is not possible on 2014 Q5 models.
Is this correct or can these functions be enabled with VCDS?
Answer eagerly awaited.

WE have a 2014 model, works fine.
i have them set at 10% and permanently on.
CD naming? not sure what you mean - can you explain?

With 6 CD changer in the glovebox on A6 models one could, via MMI, name CDs so that when one brings up the Media option the title of all 6 CDs would show on the screen so that you could pick the one you want to listen to. Very similar to the way in which tracks are displayed when you connect an iPod with the AMI option. This is, for me, a useful facility as I have a lot of older CDs that do not have whatever encryption new CDs have to display their name automatically.
On Q5 all that is displayed in the MMI is "Audio CD" so one has to select it and wait for it to load before knowing what you the music is. With A6 once it had been named the car remembered it if removed and reloaded into the changer at a later date.
Sadly for me there is much less functionality in the Q5 MMI than I had with my A6 although this may due to it being an A4/5 based vehicle hence lower down the Audi food chain although a basic A6 is much cheaper than a higher spec Q/SQ5. Does the R8 version MMI have more functionality than your SQ5/RS5?

If you have copied your "old" CDs to a PC(?) you can tag the disc and tracks and add a thumbnail picture. Copy to an SD card = it works for me.

Yep R8 is older. (technically it doesn't have MMI, just an MMI like interface).
Tech in the cars is generally based on release date
The driver behind the tech in the R8 was weight, rather than using the more unto date A8 tech they went with the A3 tech.
With the new direction of Audi its feasible that in the next version it will be software upgradeable during the lifecycle of the car.

Update:
Adamabz was round today and we enabled Drive Select and a few other items, best thing was we got off-road mode as well as the usual stuff.

Can you come back as I have sussed why you may not have noticed any difference in the steering and I can give you the extra modes also.
