I want to buy audi q5 but as its a very expensive car i found a company in my country belgium called belgoexport. He gave me an offer with 21 procent reduction compared to audi belgium prices. As per him he buys direct from audi uk; its continental version means steering wheel located left side.
Is this possible? Automatique gear, milano leather only for 38900 euro tax in; at belgium dealer 47900eur tax in.
I think cheater or possible? His website looks ok, company exists 13years but cant find any revieuws if the company..

Hi Dirk
Anybody can buy a left hand drive Audi in the UK and export it. You have to use Watford Audi to place your order, their telephone number is Tel: 0044 (0) 1923 202 800
Check out the website regarding taxfree sales
www.auditaxfree.co.uk

I am exporting mine to France and will save approx 40% of the price at my local French dealership
Hope this helps, dont go to an importer go direct

Thnks for the fast reply!
What about tax? Because when new car arrives belgium i still need to pay belgium tax of 21 % i suppose? As per belgoexport its included in his price but why there can be such big price difference?

yep ? to the ? is the main factor regarding the different price, for some reason Audi still seem to think the rate is 1.5? to the ?, this accounts for a 30% of the difference in price.

When you buy a car from Watford Audi you buy it without paying UK VAT (17.5%) and then when you arrive at your destination country and register it you have to pay the tax on the vehicle - in France I will have to pay 19.6% TVA and then I also have to pay the eco/gas guzzler tax which for my 3.0tdi is 1600?

It is still well worth the agro and effort though, my car (exactly same spec) at the local French dealers is 73000? yes really

I paid ?40,600 in the UK (with a 4% disc) + 19.6% approx ?49000 + 1600? = ?50,500 saving me about ?21000 after transferring a few ? here and there, which on my car is 33%

Hi Dirk

I bought mine at Watford Audi, and imported to Belgium: They're good to deal with and while almost everything went smoothly, there were a couple of difficulties:

1. Getting insurance to drive it to BE (officially, temp' insurances like dayinsure.com don't cover export)
2. Getting the Certficate of Conformity (PV Goedkeuring) took some time as these are not used for anything in the UK, however, in once back in BE you won't be able to get insurance or licence plates without it (unless you're diplomat/EC/SHAPE/etc.)

And yes, you have to pay VAT in BE, unfortunately (but you don't pay in the UK if you export within 2 months). I tried to find a way around, as it was 21% v. 15% last year, but no joy...

The price is also better in the UK as you get a bunch of options on the SE models for relatively little extra that you would have to buy from a long and expensive list in BE.

Hello,

I am currently working in London and I bought mine at Watford Audi, and I am still waiting for the delivery (mid-late may). After I receive the car I will ask for UK plates and maintain it in the UK at least for one year. When I get back to my country, Portugal, I will avoid paying huge tax as I already paid 17.5% VAT in the UK. However, I am sure that I will experience some of the difficulties described by Celerus. Therefore, could anyone advice me to avoid problems:

1. How long it takes signing the papers to became the owner?
2. Getting insurance to drive between UK and Portugal. Which companies negociate insurances that cover europe driving;
3. How long it takes getting the Certficate of Conformity (PV Goedkeuring)?

Just to know...I will save app 12,000?... In Portugal the car costs 54,000?

Do not know how you are doing that Nuno
You do not pay VAT when you buy it and have to export it within two months
I am taking out UK insurance with Aviva for 1 month to allow me to get UK road fund license and legally drive in UK. The day it is booked on the ferry I am taking out Gan insurance in France who will allow me to drive on UK plates until I get my Carte Gris and French plates
The car comes with the Certificate of Conformity when you buy it - that is what the fee is for when you order your car

Do you think that this buying in the uk for use abroad is anything to do with your car "dissappearing" at the European dockside?

Can't see why it would - but you never know?

HI,

I think I didn't made myself clear. I live and work in UK. I was thinking of buying a car to use in my travels between POR and UK. I decide to buy in UK because of the price. When I make my definitive return to my country I will not pay the same tax that a normal person (that buys a new car in POR) pays as I already paid 17,5% VAT in the initial registration in the UK.
Therefore:
1) I am not exporting it when he arrives;
2) I need a UK insurance that allows me to travel between UK and POR;
3) Since I will go on hollydays when my car arrives I was wondering how long will it takes to manage the UK registration.

Thank you for your comments.
