new to the forum . I've got a march 2009 3.0tdi sline with MMI HD nav, reversing plus , camera etc and am looking into getting a towbar fitted.

Ive been advised that due to the build week of my car to have non vehicle specific witing kit on a bosal bar . What I have been asked to clarify prior to bumper removal is whether I will need to have my parking sensors recalibrated after the bumper has been disconnected .... anyone with similar experience on a bar etc .

I see there are people on here who had the thule bar fitted by a mobile fitter and had no issues but they havent stated whether they had rear sensors & advanced parking plus etc.

I can't answer your questions but I am also interested in the Bosal bar.

When you get it fitted would you mind reporting back here with some pictures?

After many calls recently to Audi, and various aftermarket fitters i came to the conclusion that fitting an aftermarket bar was easy.....getting the electrics to work is hit and miss dark art that not even audi garage would guarentee if they fitted it. You have to have the car ecu recoded to work alsong wiht all manner of other electical nightmares.

On this advice from all parties consulted i went for the factory fit, its cheaper in the long run and guarenteed to work. Sorry, this probably isnt what you wanted to hear.

I have a bit more info now

my car went to my local dealer for some warranty work & recall ..

they say that my car has the extra fans allready that audi rec for towing
they will recode my car for ?50 if i take it to an aftermarket dealer

so it look like i can .. use a vehicle specific wiring kit and aftermarket bar then get audi dealer to recode to the right spec so it should be ok !

The extra fans done exist, there are no extra fans just like there are no chassis changed needed! It was all a rumor and not a very plausable one either.

The wiring is still an issue, make sure its the same loom that would be used in OE fitting otherwise you may well have problems and of course youll end up with a cut bumper too unlike the OE one.

I have got a build date for car but I am panicking somewhat about an after market tow bar. Considering putting build back and specifying a tow bar.
Has anyone had success with an after market tow bar that will not affect the warranty
Thanks in anticipation. Also has any one got a picture they can post of an after market bar.

Towequip have 3 towbar options (do a search). You also need the Q5 interface box from them which is another 135 Quid.

I'm trying to track down the part number for the lower bumper skin that has the towbar port - should be a pretty easy job with this part.
