I currently drive a Freelander 2 with a towbar fitted. I use this for towing a caravan but also to carry bikes on a Thule 4 bike carrier that clamps to the towbar. The nose weight limit on the Freelander is 150kg which is well within the noseweight of my caravan and the bike rack.

I have a Q5 3.0tdi on order again with a towbar fitted. The nose weight limit on the Q5 is 80kg which is still fine for my caravan but does this matter when putting a towbar mounted bike rack on. Is nose weight the same for a bike rack as it is for a trailer.

I have been given a build date of week 27 for my Q5 and expected delivery to the dealer of early August. The big dilema is do i wait and take delivery on the 1st September with a new reg or take delivery in August and save a months depreciation on the Freelander. There is a revised Freelander coming out in September or October that will probably hit the value of my car and i do about 35,000 miles a year so when my Q5 has done 100,000 miles i dont think a 10 or 60 pleate will make much of a difference to its value.

I am probably leaning towards taking delivery sooner rather than later but would value another opinion. Its been a long enough wait for the Q5 anyway.

Hi,have read on another topic that the difference in re sale of the Q5 with the different reg would be approx ?500 if you believe that you will lose more than that on the freelander might be worth going with sooner rather than later.

The figure quoted as "nose weight" of the towbar is independant of what you are attaching?

A 4 bike carrier (I have the 2 bike version) - well may add up to 70-80kg dependant on the spec of your bikes, but I really wouldn't worry about carrying that on the Audi towbar - they will have a BIG safety margin added in anyway.

My bikes are only about 10-12kg each.
