My car was fitted with the factory towbar and electrics which are 13 pin - to tow an english trailer you need 7 pin electrics. Just found this, been and bought one and it works perfectly, no fouling of the bodywork and you can leave it on when you retract the towbar

I had this problem with my 2005 A3 - 7 pin on car, 7 pin on trailer, 13 pin on Thule bike carrier !!

So I still need to keep the adapter to allow connection to my trailer.

I found that due to the wiring arrangement 7/13 pin, the reversing light function on the Thule carrier didn't work, so hopefully with a 13 pin car socket that will fire up?
