Hi Guys,

Don't like to post in the wrong thread - but I feel strongly that we are not in control of OUR forum and this post in the correct place at the bottom of the page will be missed.

Were any of the moderators consulted on the decision to end tapatalk? I know the users weren't!

I know most of the regular users use the website, rather than an app on their smartphone - but as you will often see from my posts I use tapatalk and the support has been removed today without warning and replaced by a mediocre copycat focused on car forums (which is a nice idea but considering tapatalk has millions of users and works REALLY well for forums why change!). I follow many forums of different genres and literally EVERY forum on the web supports it - its a great little app and makes following forums so simple.

I have posted here with my thoughts and I would appreciate you showing your support and asking our big brother forum controllers to let us decide what we want on our forum. http://www.myaudiq5....toguidecom-app/

I would also point out the latest vendor 'sponsors' which have appeared at the bottom of the page... So a UK bias forum is getting US only websites! Whoever is supposedly looking after this forum is not thinking about what is actually good for it and I don't think that is right! This is clearly a commercial decision which has been hustled through and the community should not accept this bullying.

Thank you again for your support!

José

Oh right, that's what's happened. I had wondered all day why there were no posts. This is the first time I've looked at the website for weeks because I too use tapatalk; it's the only way for me to conveniently view the posts during the day.

So myaudiq5 forum controllers, goodbye, I'm off. Tapatalk was great and made it easy to use the site. Without it, i have neither the time nor the inclination to remain as a forum member. This also means one less person for your advertisers to sell to.

Totally agree.

Found this forum invaluable since the decision to purchase and with ongoing membership and its grown into a nice little community. Some feedback on the decision to remove this facility would be appreciated. I appreciate that the forum costs to run and if cost is an issue I'm sure we all wouldn't mind making a small yearly contribution to its upkeep to allow greater control and functionality.

Absolutely Chopper - I don't think anyone has any issues with supporting sponsors/adverts etc to pay for the costs of hosting, but that should be the only cost - we are basically self moderating! I don't understand why they aren't looking at the type of members and choosing relevant sponsors!

I am an admin for a modified car page with 1500 members, and it works well because all of the admins are actively involved and know what the community wants etc - we actually have a couple of members that host our forum for free as that is their business - I would suspect that amongst our members there may be someone that could do similar!

My previous car was a Focus ST and like this forum I joined it from day dot. Paid £10 a year for membership. Learnt loads about the car, fitted my own intercooler and CAIS and bought parts from other enthusiasts. I also saved over £500 in insurance one year by using a club sponsor.

Perhaps a poll to see what people think as I'm sure a tenner a year is within the reach of most owners on here...

Yea - I'm game for a tenner a year - and we can just mod it ourselves and not have this company over us!

Don't be hasty - you want to hang the accused before they even speak?
You have no idea if its an oversight, if its a site problem or anything else in-between.

Lets also not be rash, the board would lose many more 'active' members by charging £10 to access this web site/forum and if i'm to be blunt, why should the majority fund a facility for the minority? Yes, we could use taptalk, but based on the post tags, most clearly don't want to. By the looks of things, the 'owners' of this board own many other car boards too, so I'm sure they have more than enough income to cover the costs without going subscription based.

It's clearly not an oversight... Every page has an announcement to say the support has actively been removed.
As you say the owners specialise in car based forums and they are no doubt trying to plug their own inferior autoguide app over Tapatalk - which is ridiculous! As I said above, sensible advertising and willing members is all any forum needs... Subscriptions are not really required, but this forum is so useful I would gladly pay one...

RE most people don't use Tapatalk, true but I suspect I am the only one they has the signature set to say so, there will be others that use it silently such as obsidian... And even if only a few do, the ones that do are clearly active and valued members.

Absolutely agree with Jose on this.
Indeed IF a small fee was charged we may not see so many rouge members as we have recently.

Other forums are reporting taptalk "removed them from the their network", like i say lets wait for someone to respond.
I'm not prepared to pay anything and the membership is too small now as it is so subscriptions are clearly not going to work (IMO).

" AutoGuide.com has made available for your download the AutoGuide Mobile App, available to Apple and Android Phones and Tablets. It's available as a free or paid version. You can find it by searching "AutoGuide" in the app store or by clicking here for more info:http://www.autoguide.com/mobile/"

other forums complaining seem to include....
fiat500, nissanclub, gminsider, lotustalk, ttforum, hondacivic, tundratalk, fordfusion, subaru, kia, mazda, vwforum - then i got bored of looking.

Just seems pretty obvious to me that all the sites owned by autoguide are having Tapatalk pulled to force people to use their own app.

This is basically not fair on every level... They are just doing it to try and make more money, not to provide a better service to the communities they serve.

OR... and this is no better

On 31st May autoguide launched there app - which as far as I can see, they are hi-jacking parts of the way Tapatalk works to make their app work. And so Tapatalk have quite rightly told autoguide to get shoved, and stop copying our solution! In which case autoguide need to eat some humble pie, remove their app, and patch things up with tapatalk for the good of the community.

I tend to agree with all points of view here.

Firstly, it is short sighted not to support tapatalk, too many people now use this; it is the 'go to' app for people who like to contribute to forums. This functionality has not been removed for reasons of cost and I can only assume that the actual reason it has been removed is for improved advertising revenue control/ownership.

Secondly, I would gladly pay for the forum but don't believe this should be necessary. While I will, others will not and that simple fact kind of defeats the purpose. We need everyone on here who currently takes part to stay a part of the forum. Additionally, this is a small forum with a small membership and fees are not likely to raise anything to write home about.

At the end of the day, I will become less active. This is a lifestyle issue because I commute to London which means mobile is more convenient...I use my IPad for everything. I appreciate the 'powers that be' have made provision for an alternative; I simply don't need another, less proficient app, when I already have the accepted leader, Tapatalk. I also don't want to have to come home, as tonight, and log into the forum. It's unnecessary.

I feel sure that for all of us who care, many more don't. However, I do hope the forum owners have carefully analysed the likely impact of this decision. Advertisers care about active unique users, not dormant users with limited activity. Looking at the other forums, this has led to a lot of bad feeling so rather than worrying about a fee, maybe a loss of advertising revenue will deliver a more material blow.

By the way guys, I haven't said this before but thank you to all of you for making this forum so good. It's one of the nicest forums to be on, everyone is really helpful and it has helped me choose the right spec (even if you all think I've chosen the wrong colour
)....see you in a week when I log back in....all so 2001!

why not just download the other app?
Because I use Tapatalk to follow many different forums and I don't see why I have to have ANOTHER app - I have downloaded it to see what it is like - and it is POOR! Basically a knock off Tapatalk!

Tapatalk is widely disliked by forum operators for the simple reason that it bypasses the restrictions some forums impose based on post count. There are some forums I use where trolling via tapatalk has been a big problem. I personally don't use it so it's so loss to me and I'd say good riddance based on my experiences.
