I?m in the U.S. and just started looking into purchasing a Q5. A good friend of mine who did some research but ultimately decided on a Lexus RX pointed out that Audi won?t install Running Boards or a Trailer Hitch if a Panoramic Sunroof is in place. The Running Boards I can do without, but I can?t do without the trailer hitch nor a sunroof. Can anyone confirm this? If so, is this because the Q5 can't handle the additional structural stress if the sunroof is in place? The Audi Accessories brochure I found within this forum makes no mention of this. My fear is if I go ahead with my plan on my own, I?ll be stuck with a leaky sunroof that Audi won?t cover under the warranty. I have just ordered today a 2.0 TDi with panoramic sunroof and towbar hitch. None of the 4 dealers mentioned an issue with this combination. The current UK brochure v2.0 03/09 for 2009 model year gives an unbraked max trailer load of 750kg ( 2400kg if braked on 8% gradient).

A friend sent me a link to an accesories website, Bernardi parts, which indicates that running boards and tow hitch should not be installed if the sunroof is in place. The wording is not the clearest but I've pasted it below and will verify with an Audi rep at the soonest.

Attention:
Running boards may not be added to all Audi Q5 models.
In the event an Audi Q5 has PR code 3FU (panorama sunroof) installed, dealer installed Hitch (8R0-092-115) and Running Boards (left and right) both must not be installed to that vehicle.
In the event a vehicle does not have 3FU (sunroof) both the Accessory Hitch and/or Accessory Running Boards may be installed.
Note: Left and Right running boards are sold seperatly. Not sold as a set.

I called my local dealer and they have no warning or knowledge of tow hitch limitations with the sunroof. They did say however that the towing package may be a pre-order option. They are going to e-mail me the information.

I just noticed this image showing both Sun Roof and tow hitch. It's got to be an official Audi image - who else would generate such an elaborate image.

Crusty - definitely an AUDI image, however I wouldn't consider it as representative of actual specs
