I invariably upgrade my car on its third anniversary, or thereabouts, so with my 2013 Q5 S-line Plus approaching that age I started to shop around back in late January.
Firstly, my Q5 was in top condition, 30ks on the clock and very well looked after. I was pleased with the dealers valuations (went to my two local dealers) who came up with pretty comparable valuations at 60% residual value. Hope that you'll agree that she looked smart after just under 3 years of motoring.
I visited two local dealers to get their quotations for a new Q5 (S-line plus with the 3.0L TDi) but was disappointed by the low discounting for an end or range model. Further, neither deler responded to my subsequent emails or phone calls so it was clear that they didn't need or want my custom. With that in mind I decided to call the dealer that sold me the Q5, albeit they're 230 miles away from my Somerset home.
With my 'trusted' dealer contacted in early March matters moved along a lot quicker. Within 24 hours of contacting him he had a quote for me and after a few phone calls and emails he got to the level of discount that I was looking for and was content to accept the Q5 valuations of the dealers local to me. The new Q5 was ordered on 13 March but during that phone discussion I mentioned that the specification and price wasn't far off a SQ5. Later that day he e-mailed me some SQ5 specs, similar to those of my ordered Q5, for vehicles immediately in stock in the UK. The temptation was too great and I decided to change for the SQ5 and after a few exchanges agreed a price at 13% discount.
Made the journey to pick it up last Tuesday, 12 days after ordering, and have now done c700 miles in it and very pleased (grinning like a madman). Not the best pictures but at least it was clean at the time.
Spec:
SQ5 326PS
Sepang Blue
Nappar Lunar Silver & Black
Audi Drive Select
B&O Sound
Black Styling Package
Door mirrors - folding etc
Panoramic glass sunroof
Heated front seats
High beam assist
Hill hold
Phone prep- High with connect
Power-operated tailgate
Privacy glass
Red brake calipers
3 spoke flat bottomed steering wheel
Technology package - High
21inch 5-spoke twin star alloys
A great all-round car, practical and sensible when needed (40 mpg today), but also fun and fast when equally appropriate. Poor chap in a BMW X5 an inch off my bumper coming off a roundabout in to a section of dual carriageway this evening didn't see me again after I clicked it in to sport and depressed my right toe. I think that I'm 17 again
Regards
