I have ordered a Q5 TDi Sline Special Edition for March 2011 delivery. I did not order the SatNav option, but later tried to change my mind only to be told by my dealer that it was too late and the order spec was closed. Soes anyone know whether it can be added post-delivery. Is it just a new chip or something or do I have to go back to the TomTom?

Thanks

Buy a garmin save ?1500 dont think the q5 nav is worth the price tag tbh
Err It's not just SatNav for the ?1500 (The Tech pack Low for ?1500 would also come with Audi Music Interface and Audi parking system plus).

The AMI provides intuitive control through the audio system and the multi-function steering wheel. It also replicates the iPod display on the audio screen and DIS, including track titles. Also, the integrated Nav is far superior to any portable one in terms of integration, functionality and ease of use.

If a top of the range portable Nav cost near ?400, then the Tech pack is well worth the extra ?1100 tbh

Johnny, ask the dealer if the order will be delayed and by how long? I hear Audi has step up its productions of Q5s and the wait is much less than before. To me the Tech Pack is one of the must have, but as they say to each their own.

Yes if you think its worth 1500 quid go for it, i personally dont and i contemplated it for a while, the ami and the parking system plus is good, i felt that unless you travel all over the uk/europe weekly/monthly why spend all that on nav.

Hi Johnny,

Welcome to the forum

I don't want you to be influenced either way but from my personal experience the dealer is talking bollocks! For one reason or another my order was changed twice with no impact on delivery time or price. The latest change was pretty close to delivery week going confirmed i.e. within one month of delivery!

This is one big issue that Audi need to sort out. They should be capable of telling you categorically if an amendment to your order will have an impact on delivery dates or not.

I went for the Tech Pack High and have to say that I'm pleased I did.

Cheers,

Kev

I agree with the above
Your dealer is being lazy! I doubt very much that your order is confirmed with the factory yet!!!!

Also you will get a better price come selling time. Premium car should ideally have sat nav fitted imho. Tech pack high is worth it

I have just discussed this with central Audi Customer Services and they say that the order would need to be cancelled and input again, thereby starting the whole 6-9 month wait again. Guess thats the way the rules can work when the car is in demand.

When you say Central Audi do you mean Audi or the Dealer? Audi were allowing order changes up until about 6 weeks before the build date unless that has changed with the new order system

You could contact www.richter.co.uk and see if they can do a retrofit for you. Audi/Vag specialists used by a lot of Dealers

Or you could email either Jeremy Hicks or Greg Levine (both very senior at Audi UK) and explain what your situation is and ask them for a definitive answer. They are both very helpful guys and it is well worth an email!

My Q5 is on order with a build date in February, I changed the specification last week with no issues, go to your dealer and ask them to show you the factory order configuration from where they can make the change, it should update within 24 hours. My dealer told me that it does depend on what the change is and depending on that it may or may not reset the manufacturing cycle.

While 2k seems a lot the functionality is good and you will see back 1k of that come resale.
Q5 without nav would be much harder to sell IMO.

Glad you posted this one - same for me, changed the order within weeks of delivery with no adverse impact. Clearly some dealers have no idea how their own systems work or are just too damn lazy to make the changes.

Really bad news for someone that has overlooked something like the spare or tow bar.

I involved Audi UK, who talked to the Dealer, however Audi UK confirmed that no change is possible. So not sure whether it depends upon what is added/changed, but to me it seems stupid that they cannot make a change to receive more revenue weeks/months before a car is even made. That is probably rigid production scheduling at the cost of customer service?

All depends on where it is.
4 weeks before build it moves from scheduled to confirmed. Once confirmed even god can not change it, it will get built.
Why four weeks? that's the length of the supply chain.

I'd therefore "guess" your car is about to hit the lines.

Everything is negotiable, I suggest you really push to have your order changed. Remember you are the customer threaten to cancel the order you will soon see a change take place.

Johnny,
If you didn't have any success with changing your order, and you want a functional and integrated SatNav system, then you could install an aftermarket one that integrates into the 6.5 inch LCD screen you have in the centre of the dash. I did it in my Q5, sourcing the device directly from a factory in China that produces them for the domestic Chinese "A4L" model which has the same electrics as A4, A5, and Q5 models world-wide.
A bit more detail is available on Robbie's thread
http://www.myaudiq5.com/index.php?/topic/1312-dealer-fit-sat-nav/

I can help anyone who wants one of these as I have been sourcing them for my fellow Australians on ozaudi.com forum. I've ended up putting together a complete kit for DIY install, including a comprehensive set of instructions, the specialised tools needed, and a reverse camera as well. PM me for details etc. I am about to order my 3rd batch of 10 (factory MOQ) so should be able to supply promptly if anyone is interested.
