As my car has not been delivered yet can someone tell me how the front LED daylight running lights work, do they come on in place of side lights or is there another setting to operate them?

Hi Bill,

Turns out my car is a week behind yours - was assembled in week 40. Yours must be just a week away now?!

My understanding is that the LEDs are on all the time unless you disable them through the MMI (though this is something I picked up in reviews and don't have first hand experience so I could be wrong).

the LEDS are on all the time and no other lights, I ahve the light settings to Auto so never have to worry about it, I think you can turn the LEDS off via the MMI but why would you !

Yes on all the time except at night when the main beams come on, the LED's go out. I think thats a shame as i've seen some cars with the LED's still on at night and they look fab. I've heard that you can reprogramme the MMI via VAG-COM so they are always on. Anyone done this yet?

Sorry! Getting a bit ahead of myself there. I meant that the running lights dim when the main beams are on. There are a few A5's i've seen that have the running lights still on full and they look really good at night.

Hi All
Any one seen the French version Q5 with the chasing LED front running lights?
Check out this on Youtube.

Hi Bill,
Not wishing to sound like a smart arse, but I think you will find the strobing affect on the lights in that video is due to the cameraman not using a slow enough shutter speed, thus giving the strobing effect, the same as the TV screen in the cabin, sorry to spoil the fun!,

Cheers, Pete

Hi, just wonder how bright it needs to be before the main lights turns off. I took my car out of the garage, but the main are still on (switch set to auto). I know the daylight this time a year ( at least here in Norway) is low, but still

Same here, at dusk and dawn the main lights are on longer. I'm sure there is a setting in the MMI as well that you change the sensitivity of the sensor.

At least they are better than my previous Lexus. They came on just driving under a bridge or tree, am sure people thought I was flashing them

Yes, I found the setting, which can be set to early, mid or late. But is it late ON or late OFF. The owner's manual do not really define this
of would asume late ON, which I tried, but they where still on.

Update (next day):

A bit more sunny today, and I put the light setting into the "LATE" mode. The main lights are now automatically turned off, so I guess it was too dark yesterday. So far everything works, and I reallye enjoy this car
