Running Boards

With so many OEM style running boards available I wondered if anybody had purchased and fitted and therefore had recommendations for a particular vendor for these?

I noticed even with the genuine Audi accessory you still have to cut the existing covers so thinking a good quality replica set could be an option.

Hi Arrow was thinking of getting bords myself to assist the wife getting in and out the car. I cannot make up my mind but while I was looking around for alternatives I found a company at Bragan.net. Googled 2018 Audi Q5 running bords - and their site was listed. They claim that the boards they offer are the same that Audi supply to their dealers !!!. They look identical to what the dealer would supply and come with all the brackets and bolts etc. At £180 I have my doubts they are the same. But maybe somebody in the forum has experience with the company and/or their products.
I am also thinking about fitting after market ones.
I have a Q5 with no running boards, so easy to get in and out of car.

At the Malvern Show today, and looked at an SQ5 that had running boards, FFS it was so difficult getting out of the car without hitting the running boards, and too small to stand on, legs would always get dirty in the winter from brushing against them.

My wife would insist they were taken off (she is only 5ft 2 in) as she could hardly get out of the car.

What are they for, are they just "Bling".

They are not practical at all, except maybe for kids with small feet. Every time an adult steps on your running board they will be kicking your paintwork
Stepping in and out of the Q5 without stepping on them will result in dirty trousers. Plus they also weigh a ton and are not aerodynamic, so your fuel economy will go down a bit.

Got to disagree - have them on my Q7 and granted takes a couple of days to get used to them so that you're not shining yourself. But they are brilliant.

I actually got them for the little people and for them with every penny and to be fair I always use the step to get in - never kicked the paint work but then you don't put your whole foot on the step.

Oh and it's the only way other than getting a step ladder to reach the middle of the roof when washing the car ????
Q7 boards are more substantial, IMO the ones on the Q5 are too narrow to be useful. FYI they can't be sped'd on cars with air suspension.

The Q7 boards are just fine, I had them on my last Q7.

But on the Q5, useless.

I got aftermarket ones from https://direct4x4.co.uk for a fraction of the OEM costs. Took them to a dealer to install and they said they were easier to put in than the OEM ones..!

I got them because I use a roof box fairly regularly and it just makes loading easier. Also my toddler gets in and out of the car by himself with running boards.

Pretty useful imo.
I had mine done a month ago. They look fab. I had them done for my 3year old daughter. She was struggling to get in and out of the car. Now its easy peasy as she would say.

I have them on my SQ5 and they’re definitely not useless. The children find them brilliant, and I use them all the time for washing the roof or putting stuff on the roof bars. Never kicked any paintwork.
