My 2018 Q5 didn't come with the wireless charger, or even a sliding tray and I didn't like how open it all looked. So I bought a second hand centre console tray for £30,which had the wireless charger as well.

There was two options, either the Kufatec wiring harness for over €100, which includes wiring to the signal booster (which I'm assuming isn't fitted as standard)... Or I pull it all apart, and retrofit a QI 15W fast charger.

I'm going to tap into the cigarette lighter for 12v, with a 12v to USB C adapter. Then open up the fast charger, and attach it to the underside of the tray. It'll look OEM, charge faster than OEM and won't have the apparently annoying MMI warnings if the phone slides around. Etc

Thanks for sharing. It is the most annoying design with the cup holders and charger. Wish they had put in front of gearstick in the little tray.

Yeah I think I've seen more posts online about ripping it out! Maybe I'll regret doing it, I'll keep the original parts in case I need to go back

Really good post and excellent work. I went with a simpler option which I bought from Amazon for 59.69. It fits in front of the gear lever plugs into cigarette socket and looks like OEM fitment.

Ah yeah see that one just sits on top of the sliding tray version, which I don't have.. Mine was an early model with no slide rails at all. This looks like a good option too though
