I've had my Q5 for almost 5 months and already had the computer that regulates the transmission replaced, its called mechatronics and its special order by corp to germany as its very expensive, been at dealer few times and they still dont know what to do. waiting on a new software but they dont know when it would be ready
.....
between gears it jerks, so far I have found other A4 same problem and one Q5 manual with other problems between gears, the worst its that Audi its not stepping into the plate, they will keep trying to fix though, but they dont know what!

if you have similar problem let me know.... thanks

alex - I wouldn't accept they don't know why this is happening - the guys from AUDI Eng will be able to confirm the problem very quickly (aslong as they know) - they are very experienced. Firstly I would ask for written confirmation of what has been done so far and what they intend to do next - plus a time scale of the remedial works. Advise this is required so you can understand how you wish to proceed - i.e. reject the car or wait. I would also follow up any telephone call or visit with an email summarising all the comments made and how you understand them.

This may sound extreme, but the longer you keep the car with the problem the more YOU are accepting it (bizarre but true). Of course keep it all friendly and amicable, however a formal letter keeps it all clear or all parties.

Keep us posted

Hi...

I'm thinking you have a Q5 with the S tronic gear box. I have a A4 with the same problem.
My original problem was a surging / pulsing at anything constant over 80.
I had the first update done which was the S tronic software, this was to fix the rev counter moving about which is related to the surging, this didn't fix the original fault instead it made the up shifts harsh, slow and also to do funny things whilst changing up. the revs did stop moving about tho'
The second update was done last week, this was on the engine. It has fixed the surging by 90%, but the S tronic is the same.
I'm now picking up a A5cab 3.0TDI that has the S tonic box in so I can compare like for like.

I told the S tronic problem is due to the first update, I'm still waiting for Audi to get back to my dealer on whats going on....

I bought a new 2012 Q5 at the end of July 2012. Within 6 weeks the transmission needed to be replaced. The car only had 300 miles. It accelerated and surged dangerously while driving on a regular street. Then when I put the brakes on it downshifted funny making loud clunking noises. Everytime I slowed the car down the downshift clunking noise occurred. The car had to be towed. The dealer stated they couldn't replicate. Then after 5 days or so they said they would replace the transmission and it would come from Germany in 10 ish days. Then they called in 2 days and said the tranny was in (logistically impossible). I don't feel safe. This is a brand new car. I don't want a major system replaced and then have to drive this car. Anyone out there with advice?
