I never specc'd this but with a 5 month old daughter I guess I should have.

Keen to see what I could do I found a local firm that specialises in all types of film protection, window tinting, paint protection etc. For £180 I can get the complete rear section done (so same as factory) in any one of the four shades they offer, so £200 cheaper then the factory option. Food for thought for any of you still mulling over the spec of your cars.

For me this is ideal as I'm not massively keen on overly dark rear windows so being able to choose a lighter shade has worked out perfectly. The owner also told me the factory option offers little or no UV protection but the 3M film they use blocks 99% of UV rays, however I cannot verify this.

So as soon as my cars delivered it'll be booked in. Needless to say pics will follow.

Of all things I was watching 'wheeler dealers' a few days ago and they put films into an old Rangey, cost less than £300 and looked very professionally fitted. Always thought after market films were full of creases and bubble but this has shown me the difference between proffessional fit and DIY.

I don't know about UV protection on the factory glass, it's not that dark though and regret not keeping the blinds on my order as well; if anyone is getting the glass due to children I'd def recommend the extra £100 for the fitted blinds!

Swainey, I'm sure your car will look great

Thanks Robbie.

Wish I'd opted for the blinds too, and tried to add after I'd initially ordered but my dealer couldn't confirm whether it wouldn't affect my build slot.

You really cannot tell the difference between factory tints and aftermarket jobbies these days, if professionally fitted. The place I'm gonna use also guarantee against bubbles, creases, peeling etc for the whole period of ownership.

Here in the desert southwest, we've done tinting on ALL our cars (and our houses too
)

Many of the 'metalized' films can be near clear and offer just as much, or more, uv and heat protection as limo tint...

our new q5 had the privacy glass on the rear and we negotiated for some tint on the front door windows as well... just legally we can't go too dark....

LOVED the blinds in the rear and the one we got didn't come with it , can they be retrofitted ????

Probably but I think it would involve new door cards or cutting into the existing ones.

Anythings possible though!
