Hi All

I have just had a quote to have the whole front half covered in a clear paint protection film ?1k plus VAT.

Has anyone done their Q5 or any other car if so, is it worth it?

I know from my TT that the paint stone chip's easily, but at ?1k it is almost as much as having the front resprayed at trade price.

Would be easier to take out the audi paint protection insurance think its 400 for three years and you can call them out as much as you like up to a total repair cost ?3000(30x?100 visits) and no bigger than 15cm

Got the Smart Repair leaflet in front of me.......total claim ?3000. Can be taken out on any car up to 5 years old and with less than 100,000 miles at inception of the policy.

Covers a chip not exceeding 1.5mm in diameter - typical repair cost ?89
Covers a minor dent not exceeding 15cm in diameter provided the panel is not ripped, perforated or torn - typical dent repair ?45
Covers light scratch not exceeding 15cm and not extending over more than two adjacent body panels - typical scratch repair ?79

I've seen the fronts of cars peppered with stone chips. So say you repair 10 chips at a time.....won't take long to get to the limit. And can they really blend the paint in as perfect as it was new just by painting the chip

I've Venture Shielded two cars now and yes it's not cheap but it does a real good job of stopping the chips from happening in the first place. Membrane remains clear, No damage to the paint and can be removed anytime you want....but why would you.

I'll be doing the Q5.

The thing with all these Insurance schemes...is that they don't offer them to protect you....they are there to make money.

The Dealer offered me "Back to invoice" Gap insurance initially at ?1200 and then ?699. This is not the best product available either :!:

The best is called "Replacement Gap" :!: Quick search on Surfandprotect yesterday who I've used before and they offered me a 4 year new for old replacement Gap at less than ?400 underwritten by a UK Insurance company.

Smart paint repair sounds like a good idea for the carpark scratches and dings we all pick up on the side panels. I'm not opposed to it and may even take it out.

Imho.....There is no way it is going to cover the cost of being peppered by all that gravel the council put on the roads last winter. Cos no sooner will you have repaired it than it will be peppered again :!:

There are possibly cheaper versions than Venture Shield but I couldn't tell you how good they are.

Hi Josh

Where did you get your Venture Shield done?

The ?1k I was quoted was for the full front, you can also get the half front for ?500

I hate seeing stone chips and I have been told that under the white paint is a grey primer?

I was hoping that white would not shot the chips and scratches, so if this is correct then I should have gone with my first choice Mt Grey!

Did both of my previous cars at www.curvaturegroup.co.uk (I'm not connected in any way). Not sure that they will come up as an installer on the Venture Shield web site. But the skill is in the application of the film and they are the best. The application is covered by warranty for as long as you own the car.

They build seriously big models, but one of their sidelines is applying Venture Shield to cars. They do a lot of Ferarris. So don't be put off enquiring as there is a template for the Q5.

They are not cheap. I'm sure I paid best part of 1K on each of the last two cars.

But the stuff worked like a dream. Just sold my 3 year old car with 45K miles and no stone chips on the front

I've just followed a link from the Venture Shield web site to a company called Bodyguard UK at Daventry. They have quouted me as below!! Given this price I think I will be using this company and saving myself some money.

Thank you for your enquiry into the Ventureshield paint protection system.
The full Ventureshield kit will cover the following areas on your car:

Front bumper
Front section of bonnet (Full Bonnet available for ?180 extra)
Front of front wings
Headlights & spotlights
Wingmirrors

All of these areas covered will stop damage from stone chips and minor abrasions, so that you will not have to consider a non-standard re-spray or devaluation of the vehicle when selling or part exchanging.
The product can also be removed prior to selling to reveal good as new paintwork underneath, instead of people negotiating a price due to stone damage.
It will also come with a Lifetime Guarantee against peeling, bubbling, yellowing or shrinking.

The kit costs ?499 fitted.
Optional extras
Top of rear bumper ? Free with Full bonnet upgrade

If you require further information, then please feel free to visit our website at www.bodyguarduk.com and under the product section you will find the required information.

I got 3 years replacement vehicle gap insurance from Audi for ?147. The guy said it was to get his figures up.
I would have preferred 4 years but at this price it was a no brainer.
My advice is to go for replacement vehicle gap as opposed to back to invoice or you could still end up with a large short fall to replace. Particularly relevant if you have finance.

Neil.
