Hi

My Q5 is arriving soon and my dealer is promoting the Safegard paint & upholstery protection for ?322. Has anyone tried this? Is is worth it? Feedback appreciated.

Hi Bertie,

I negotiated Safeguard into the deal by rounding up the value of the order to a nice round number - I think I ended up paying around two hundred and something pounds for it.

I only picked my car up yesterday so can't comment on the Safeguard longterm performance, however, if the claims are to be believed (and it is backed by a 10yr guarantee for new cars) then I think it should be worth it. They say the car won't required polishing for 3yrs and that the interior upholstery e.g. carpets repel water such that any spills can be blotted up and dirt/mud will be capable of being vacuumed up easily.

It also comes with a pretty decent and comprehensive care kit and holdall.

?322 is far too expensive - any decent mobile car valeter will do it for less - remember all they do is get a mobile guy in anyway and then just make commission.

I left my car to a reputable DITEC shop. The cost was similar to what Bertie was quoted but also included glass treatment of windows and panoramic roof. You're supposed to bring it back after 18 months. Time will tell if it's worth it...

I take it the "Safegard paint & upholstery protection" is a different product to the Autoglym LifeShine package. I am once again having the LifeShine added to my Q5 when it arrives. I have have had two previous cars protected by this product and would recommend it, especailly when it only costs ?199 including Vat. Look on the link below to see if it will meet your requirements.

got lifeshine as well and every 6 months you have to reaaply a paint sealer, but thats it, looks lovely and if miles better than the safeguard which I have had for the last 4 cars I have. In fact I have a a spare unused safeguard bag with all cleaning stuff I was going to put on ebay, if anyone is interested pm me (its weighs a ton though so difficult to post)
