Hi,
I have a 2011 S Line Q5 86k miles. I am second owner, well maintained vehicle.
After a recent oil change I received a surprising warning - "Low oil pressure" shut off motor. This shocked me. I started researching this and determined it was most likely sensor failure. I learned that there is a low and a high pressure sensor.
One is a 1 pin and the other is a 2 pin. I tracked down the sensors (not easy to find) and purchased them from local Audi dealer.
I successfully R&R both sensors. I thought that it would resolve this issue, it was ok for a few drives and then the same thing happened again. Reminder this happened again after the R&R of both sensors. I have monitored the oil level and it is consistent.
Questions -
Is there an electronic memory issue that needs to be cleared?
What else might be causing this?

Any input / insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

That sounds serious. I would beg borrow or steal a pressure gauge :-(
Thank you for your reply. I want to add some additional detail and see if this might change / add to your interpretation of my issue. I have been driving and monitoring very closely this situation and will not the following;
1. It only happens when the vehicle is at an idle speed e.g. stop light or leaving a parking place.
2, It is not been consistent, it is still happening but not on a regular basis in the same circumstances. Sometimes the alert will happen and sometimes it will not. I have not been able to notate any further detail on this happening.

I have continued to research this issue wherever possible and have not been able to find any further detail. Including speaking with an Audi expert who is also very perplexed as to the root cause of this happening.

I am still of the belief that this is a ECM - sensor performance / miscommunication issue, but certainly welcome your input.

Many Thanks.

Don

I am not a mechanic, but I am an engineer. IMHO the symptoms you have described are consistent with low oil pressure. When engine is ticking over, the pump is not performing as it will at higher rpm. If it was a defective sensor or bad connection, it would not be linked to rpm. Hopefully a new oil pump will solve your issue.

Looking through the initial post the phrase 'after a recent oil change' jumped out to me. I would do another oil and filter change - with correct spec oil and filter - just to check this wasn't the cause.
