Hi Guys,
Just joined the site and thought I'd inform potential Q5 owners of a build problem I've encountered with my order placed in December and now ready for collection.
The car ordered was a 2.0T Fsi S-line and loaded with quite a few options including the Sound Package which consists of the DAB radio and the B&O sound system.
I've just been informed by the dealer that due to a supply and build issue at the factory the car awaiting delivery has the DAB radio fitted but no B&O sound system.
They've offered to deduct the cost of the sound package (approx ?600), leave the DAB radio in the car as a no cost option and to give me a cheque for ?200 as compensation.
If I want to re-order to get the specification I originally optioned then delivery won't be until Dec 2010 - Jan 2011.
Apparently this issue also affects A4 and A5 coupes....
So anyone expecting a car through in the next month or so should really contact their dealers as a matter of urgency to check if there are any issues with their orders.
As for me, I'm really not sure what to do as I don't really want to wait another 8-9 months for a car I first ordered last December and as the B&O system cannot be retro-fitted by the dealer I'm stuck with the standard speakers....

I have ordered the B&O system on my car (separately, not as part of a package?) that is being collected on Saturday - the car had better be delivered as specced in all respects or they can shove it - I will keep you posted !!

QueFive - if it helps your decision making process, the factory "10" speaker/180w system is the best I have ever heard. I'm sure B&O is better but is it worth the wait?

Also, maybe ask these guys about a retro fit, They did a DAB for me and it's as if factory fitted.

Don't think they can retro the B&O as it has additional speakers (therefore holes) in the dashboard?

Thanks Warburton62, it's good to hear that the "10" speaker system shouldn't dissapoint.
If I accept the car I don't really want to start pulling it apart as it's on a lease and both the dealership and Audi UK have already said that the B&O system is non-retrofittable.
The really annoying thing is that car was ordered in December and was delivered to the dealers in March (I have to wait until the begining of May for delivery because my current car is leased 'til then) but no one had the wit to tell me about this problem until just days before I was due to accept delivery...

Well I am meant to be picking up my Q5 S line Spec Edition in the next couple of weeks. As this is standard on this build I would expect it to be there. If it is not then I WILL NOT be taking delivery - simples !!

I had this with one of our A4's. Apparently the only effected cars were those ordered with the 'Sound Package'. If the car has B&O as standard or if you order B&O on it's own it should still be fitted to your car. My bosses A5 came with B&O as it was standard.

The factory ordering system was not set up correctly for the 'Sound Package' we were informed. And a lot of cars ordered with the Sound Package have been built with DAB and not B&O. Unfortunatly it is almost impossible for the dealer to pick this up 'till they check the car when preparing it for delivery. In the case of my colleague it was not picked up until the sales person was getting ready to deliver it. Seems the factory has not been too good at communicating exactly which cars were effected.

We took the DAB for free and the ?200 being offered by Audi UK. The standard speakers in the car (like most VAG speakers) sound great. The driver is pleased that he has a new Audi and the saving has of course reduced his P11d value.

I have to deal with lots of makes of car for our company - this happens to a lot of manufacturers when they offer deals for specific markets like the UK. Most offer nothing! I think you should take the car, enjoy it and spend the money on a week end away.

My concern is that it's not really a question of money. The issue here is about getting what was ordered and agreed with from the dealer. Clearly Audi have screwed up and their response has been pretty poor. There's not even been an offer to fast track a new order to build a car to the required specification...it's more of here it is take it or leave it. Hardly the best way to do business!

QueFive - sorry to disappoint, but my car has got the B&O fitted (ordered separately) - it is definately some sort of cock up between the factory and this UK "sound package" option with the DAB.

Not sure what to suggest you do, but my sales rep reckons you should be looking at "free DAB" and ?500 compensation - so I suspect this is what Audi UK are putting on the table? A fresh order is going to have you looking at a November delivery apparently !!!!

Is the B&O worth it? Well as I have fallen foul of the "no AMI interface cables available" - I have only been able to run an old blues CD through it up to now, but after balancing the setup to my preferences, I can say it equals the previous HK and BOSE setups I have had before?

One "tiny, tiny" disappointment is that the 2 dashboard mounted speakers (on my car at least - EDIT to say they are shown like that on the B&O website) have gloss piano black rings around them, whilst all the others (4 doors/mirror triangles) are aluminium - go figure ??

Best of luck with your decision !

I think the B+O is awesome, and better than the Bose we had in the S4.

I would be looking for a loan car and have them reorder it - get the car you want, and them providing you with a vehicle might hurry them up. They can't reasonably refuse, it is out and out their error, not just a delay in production which is variable. You have waited a reasonable time and then some, and their error has significantly inconvenienced you. I would definitely have audi deliver the car I ordered one way or another, or you will always be a little disappointed with it (I would at least, I guess we are all different!! It would bug me every time I turned the stereo on, even if the standard is pretty good...)

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the advice.
Due to the fact that the car is being sourced via a leasing company I don't think that I can ask for a 'loaner' until Audi build me a new car...and I really can't wait another 6 months - life's to short!
I'd be interested to hear how other owners find the '10' system - I'm sure it'll sound fine to my jaded ears.
I still find it hard to believe that Audi have so comprehensively cocked up with this...clearly their marketing people don't talk to the production volk!
So much for 'Vorsprung Durch Technik'

ah, that's a shame. And it is all a bit shocking...

Still, on the upside, at least Audi make really good high quality basic stereo systems...if it was the nasty BMW standard stereo it would be much worse! I think the BMW uprated stereo is still not as good as the basic audi one...
