So, having stepped out of a 4.0diesel x5 we wanted something smaller but still solid with enough punch and a few toys so have just collected a new 3.0 diesel s-line plus s-tronic. We (ok, that's me) specced it way too high for common sense but it's a beaut and the first 800 miles have blown by. Getting a 10% discount was icing on the cake for a car we'll keep for a long while. So, for the record the car has:

Phantom black metallic paint
Black nappa seats
Extended leather pack (door handles/binnacle)
Piano black trim
20" off-road style alloys (no idea why people don't choose this often - IMO they look the business)
Active cruise with lane assist
Panoramic roof
Alcantara roof lining (phenomenal waste of money by any logical measure but based on how it looks I would choose this every time for the extra 'lift' it gives the already classy interior)
Rear park advanced (camera)
Electric front memory seats with folding mirrors
Heated front and rear seats
B&O sound
Flat-bottom steering wheel
Rear bench seat plus
Rear side blinds
Climate cup holder
Storage pack
Load area fixing pack
Removeable net partition
High beam assist
Hill hold assist
Tyre pressure loss monitor
Rear airbags
Drive select

Like I said, stupid spec in terms of depreciation but we keep cars long enough that it's the pleasure from using them that's the more important thing. Will be interesting to see which options we use and which we wouldn't pick again. Decision to go 3.0 over 2.0 already a good one with lovely performance coupled with an easy 38mpg average so far. Only fly in the ointment was the paintwork condition on delivery for a car with 10 miles on the clock - typical dealer PDI left the main panels covered with swirls and holograms from poor/sloppy polishing so it's off to a specialist to have that sorted this week. Had asked dealer to not polish but they refused as 'part of the PDI process they charge for' (!). Will post pics if anyone interested or happy to add a view on any of these options if you are wondering what they are like - let me know!

Nice spec, did you consider the SQ5?

Yes, we took the SQ5 on an extended drive at a recent Audi 'S driving day' and while I loved the car the ride was just that bit too hard on the 21s I would have wanted and we felt we just wouldn't use the extra performance. To spec it up in line with the Plus with our other extras would also have pushed it over the 50k mark, which was a step too far - maybe next time
. As for the paintwork, the supplying dealer was JCT600 - about 250 miles away from us so a hassle to take back to show them etc.. Pragmatically we are setting off the 400 it will cost to get the paint back to 'as new' against the purchase saving as they were still the cheapest deal we found. Interestingly, our local dealer, who have been brilliant servicing our older S3 (Colbornes Camberley) refused to give any discount on a new Q5 when we asked - amazing that you can save over 4k just by phoning around.

Hi,
Bad news, I would appreciate if you have photos of the swirls and holograms , as I pick up in a couple of weeks, and would take said photos to them in advance and warn them I would NOT be accepting something like this !!
I am getting Glacier white, and apparently its harder to detect these things on that colour, but I'll be inspecting it very carefully.

Welcome Jembob and glad you like new car. Mine similar but 2.0. Agonised over 3.0 and still not absolutely sure I made wise choice but my car too goes lovely.

I delivered her to a local detailer this evening to be 'properly' cleaned as though clean at dealer on collection I knew it was nothing like it could be. I shall collect her back tomorrow evening and looking forward to a spotless car with a quality wax applied for good protection and shine....

Similar spec to what I've ordered, when did you order it and what extras are you enjoying the most?

Will try to post some pics this evening of the alcantara roof and also the paint marks we're getting corrected. On the mpg front I may have been indulging a bit in the performance(...) and the engine is still tight but compared to the X5, which averaged 26mpg I'm happy!

Car was ordered early January so very quick delivery - was originally quoted end April but built slot moved fwd a month. On the extras, a bit early yet but I'd say the ones we would order again are:

- Adaptive cruise (takes a bit of getting used to as it can be spooked but overall a useful tool on heavy traffic motorway trips)
- side blinds. Near enough the same price as aftermarket stick-ons from Audi but integrated into doors. Great with kids
- climate cup holder (I know). Unique to the q5 but great at keeping drinks hot
- reverse camera. Once you've used one you won't want to go back
- bench seat plus
- htd seats (front def. rears no idea if we'll use them)
- elec memory seats
- panoramic roof

Other bits are down to personal preference, like the roof lining and piano black trim. Things I'd probably think twice about in future:

- drive select. We have the standard, non adaptive suspension so drive select makes little noticeable difference
- lane assist. The issue was that it is cheaper to have the adaptive cruise with lane assist than spending just adaptive cruise so it came with the package. If it didn't and was a cost item I wouldn't bother

We thought about both of the phone upgrades but honestly if all you want to do it sync via Bluetooth for phone book or music then the standard spec works brilliantly. I can live without Google maps. We were also a bit wary of the ride on 20"s but with normal suspension the ride is comfy and well damped.

The only thing we have to get used to is the steering, which seems very light compared to theS3 and X5. I'd rather have a bit more weight/resistance in it but it's not a major issue

Welcome mate, I too am a convert from 4.0d X5 Diesel, and definitely was a good car however totally smitten by the SQ5/Q5 brand. Gorgeous looking and love the interior, feels a lot better built than the Bimmer too.
All the best and try to chuck up some pictures if you get the time.
