My Q5 is a wright off??????..

Hi guys had my Q5 for 3 months now and loving it.
Went out today and I was sat a traffic lights.
And a lorry ran into the back of me doing 30?pushed me across the traffic lights
While a car was turning and he hit me as well..

One good thing I can say I walked away !

Luck had it the kids was not in the car..

When Audi picked it up the bloke said it?s a wright off

So in a few weeks I will be back on that very long waiting list?

Sooo sad

How long is the wait today???

Ouch.......but glad you got out in one piece.

I'm sure you will have some whiplash injury to your neck after two impacts in a few seconds. Would be financially worth seeing your GP and getting some treatment jacked up for your neck. Both to prevent future neck problems! But also to soften the wait till you get a new car. Average insurance payout for whiplash is about ?3K +

Kat - the main thing is that you are fine and the kids weren't in the car, if you drop me a PM I have a company I have used who get you a replacement like for like whilst you are waiting for repairs and also deal with all the claims for you, I have used them twice and got depreciation aswell as a replacement Q7 whilst mine was fixed and it cost my nadda...not a shameless plug but got them originally from my dealers when a lorry ran into the back of my new A4 cab, the problem I had was it was the first one in the UK and they couldn't get the spares to repair it, I had a replacement vehicle for 3 months whilst they waited for parts

On this topic I am just setting up my insurance for my Q5 (don't get me started on that! Admiral trying to charge me an extra ?175 to transfer my insurance to the Q5 from my RS4 but for a new quote as a new customer the price is the same. So its costs me ?45 to cancel the policy then take out a new one! Crazy).

But my question is a general insurance question. What happens if my Q5 is written off by someone else? Will their insurance provide a courtesy car for the time between me getting a new Q5? And given there are no 2nd hand Q5's around of the same spec as mine would this be until a new Q5 is factory built and delivered, say 6 months? And also if its stolen the circumstances change and they are not obliged to offer any replacement car for the waiting period (unless I specifically have a policy that covers this but they seem to have a max cover of 21 days)?

I'm just wondering what happens if the Q5 is stolen say.....

Thanks for your help.

Hi loobola ,
I'm no expert but i think you only get the courtesy vehicle to you are paid out. Also a little info my son wrote his car off last year and had to keep paying the instalments up to the end of the payments(pay monthly).

Hi I have been told I can keep my hire car (Q7) until I'm paid out which I have been told will be in 4 weeks?.
Then I have to give it back!!!

So I need to pay off Q5 first will have ?9000 left over
But I took out gap insurance so will get the full value of my car.
I need to get another car until my Q5 is here that will be Christmas

Then I'm trading in my gap car in against my new Q5 (which wont be much )

It so much of a pain

Thanks for the info Kat. Just to be clear in my mind, your insurance company paid out for the value of the Q5 as accessed by them at the time? But as I see it the value in the 2nd hand market is very close to new is it not (due to the waiting list)? Thus there can't have been much difference between the valuation of your Q5 and the list price of a new one can there? I only ask as I want to know exactly what I am insured for and whether gap insurance is worth it or not given a few months ago we had 3 guys try to break in to our house at night (while we were in) to (we assume) grab the keys of the RS4 we had. If someone tries again and are successful with the Q5 I want to make sure I'm not too much out of pocket. ie if I ordered a new car I'd have to wait say 7 months for that to arrive which in the meantime I'd have to buy something else (say a Q7) which I would lose money on by devaluation and just by crossing the spread when buying and selling it.

Thanks for your time and help.

Oh I also meant to add another question. I got 9% off of my Q5 when i bought it and obviously my receipt reflects that. But if dealers are not offering that discount now would they still pay out to the list price of the car? (I have given them the full list price of the car with no discount for the valuation of the car in my insurance quote).

Your car policy should pay out your car (at full replacement cost) within the first 12 months, NFU will pay out at full replacement cost for up to 24 Months!

Hoggy
Kat,

I was just about to say the same :!:

If you only had your new Q5 5 months then your Insurance Company should be paying you the full market value as per the invoice as it is within 12 months from new. I thought all policies did this :!:

I would get on to them and accept nothing less from them :!: They may try it on to see if they can get away with it so stand your ground :!:

Loobola,

Gap insurance is worth it!!!

In your circumstance you need Replacement Gap cover. Not back to invoice cover!!!

Replacement cover for 4 years. ie. if in 3 years your car is stolen/written off and car prices continue to rise the gap will pay out and cover the shortfall plus price increases. So you can get a new Q5 at 2013 prices.

Back to invoice Gap will only pay out the difference between the Insurance pay out for market value and your Origional invoice which will include your origional 9% off.

They will ask for the invoice should you need to claim!

Thanks for the info but I should only get the GAP insurance once my car is 1 year old? As you say my standard insurance already covers the replacement of a new car for the 1st year therefore GAP insurance in the 1st year has little value, is that right?

Thus I should pop a not in the diary in a years time to take out some GAP insurance.

I guess another consideration is what if they stop making the car. Probably not relevant for the Q5 for a few years but my RS4 which I just sold only got made for a few years and then stopped. I suspect the Q5 will be in production for many more years to come though...

Hi loobola,

You need to be a little cautious with that approach - whilst a lot of GAP policies do cover you for years 2, 3 and 4 i.e. they take account of the cover provided by your insurance in the first year, many of them require that you take the policy out within so many days/miles of buying the car.

Let us know how you make out please.

Cheers,

Kev
