Hi,

Had my first drive of the Q5 with my wife yesterday from Watford Audi, it was a pretty boring grey 2.0 tdi with vanilla white leather seats. Loads of extras that hide the basic spec very well. Sat Nav was reasonably easy to use and both of us were able to get comfortable. Mirrors are huge though, hadn't quite realised that nearly all the goodies we wanted were all extras. It realy does drive just like a car, minimal body roll but felt very agile and a lot quieter than my B7 Avant. Very impressed with build quality it felt really well put together.........

Then we sat down and did the sums, now I didn't chose that many options but just enough to make it comfortable and I did chose the S Tronic (March onwards) and it came to ?36500. And there's the rub my 56 B7 Avant Sline is down in the ?12500's and for ?27000 I can drive away a new 3.0 Altitude Touareg, Freelander HSE and a month old Discovey HSE and to add insult to the injury for ?3000 less than the Q5 from the same dealer I can get a new Q7.

Now don't get me wrong it's a really nice car to drive as long as you want an elevated A4 but one thing it is not is a ?36500 car. In this market residuals will drop like a stone and the dealer is unlikely to fulfill it's contract on the Q5 and it's a big dealership which was also devoid of salesman and used cars, loads of empty desks and not a lot happening!

I have looked forward to driving this for months and took a day off to fit in with the dealer to get a drive and had the cost to change been reasonable my pen would have been out. But it's not worth ?24000 more than my A4 so my money will now go on something else after 5 Audi's three of which from the same salesman!

I look forward to your views on this............sad day for me....

Hi Jim,
Yes, it is crazy pricing but I think the product is really good and that's why I have taken the plunge. I'm not overly keen on estates otherwise I would have had the BMW 3series Tourer but I still need the boot size with a small baby and all the kit that goes with.
I've ordered the 2.0TFSI with extras that comes out around ?36K. Yes I know I can get something practical for less and also a new Q7 probably but I don't want a something that huge. It just happens to fit the bill for me and I am prepared to pay for it both now and also in residuals later - some would say I'm crazy but it works for me at this time.

Andy,
Good luck to you, It's a lovely car to drive, with the adjustable rear seats boot was good and it ticked all our boxes bar one. I really hope it does well and I'm sure you will enjoy the experience but in two years it will be worth well under ?14000 just like the X3 is now.

Don't think Audi will buck the recession they, like BMW and Mercedes are really suffering and the Euro rate won't help. I set my heart on a Q5 well over a year ago and I'm gutted it no longer makes sense to buy. I still wait in hope that I can get more than the 8% discount I have been offered and maybe we can do a deal.

Incidently the BMW 320i SE (170ps) Touring was offered to me at ?19950 against ?26185 I know thats basic spec but it's nearly 2 Q5's!
