Hi All,

Any 8R owners updated they're MMI recently or done it before?

I can live with my MMI for now, just really need the latest maps as things have changed allot since 2013 :).

I've found where I can download all the software I Just don't wanna mess it up so if anyone can help with a step by step instructions I'd appreciate that!

Thanks in advance

Be warned it takes hours to install and if you don't keep engine running / on a charger you run risk of corrupting hard drive, like I did
I downloaded them and managed to brick my MMI. Got Audi to reset.

This time, I have decided to pay for three sd cards, £58. Waiting till it gets a bit warmer to do installation.
This is the exact reason for my thread, I've heard about people bricking their MMI's 🙃

Where did you order the SD cards from? I was thinking of possibly doing the same as I'm anxious.
I did my A4 a couple of years ago. Cost me £5 for a months membership of the down load site. Doing via SD is a pain. It was three or four software versions updates and then the maps. Scary deleting the hard disk partition o_O but all worked out fine. I left the car running on my drive with a big motorbike chain through the steering wheel and opened door frame. Took 5 hours or so I think.

Thanks for that, seems they also do digital downloads now aswell.
Yes, but you would then need to save to SD card(s) to install.
I successfully updated MMI & maps,
WARNING: I would not recommend this method especially for faint hearted or without access to Carista / OBII fault code reader.

  • It took nearly 4 hours to do the updates
  • The screen went black on several occasions when I thought OH NO !!!!
  • The DPF and coil fail lights illuminated due to the engine idling for a long time
  • I was able to clear the lights by Italian Tune Up
  • Carista showed up 9 other faults, which I have been able to clear
  • I still have P2463, 05188 & 0589
I will need to get DPF cleaned if these faults don't clear with another "tune up"

I paid my £230 to audi. No faff, no worries. For sure I could have done it myself. But having estimated the costs (of installation by audi versus known fault possibilities) it wasn't a gamble I was willing to take. After all I had the money. Bit like using after market parts . It could be a saving, but then....
Yes, I am risk averse these days - old age... (or is that stress averse?).

Thanks for sharing that! that’s definitely made me reconsider doing it myself. I was thinking of doing something similar in leaving the car running. The longest weekly commute i do in one go is 1hr20mins which wouldn’t be enough time complete an update.

I believe i’ve read that doing it from a usb thumb drive is much quicker, but maybe its more down to the speed of the media thats being used?

You could be right. Maybe operator error 😢
After forced regen, soot still at 26.9 😢 Normal range is 8 - 18. Has anyone had their DPF flushed?
how many forced regens could you do in a row? I’d imagine a couple more regens would bring it down to normal levels..
I hope you are right :)
@missile any luck?
Not so far, cannot get rid of the glow plug warning light. Going to seek some help
Repeated forced regen was not reducing the DPF build up or extinguishing the faults causing glow plug warning. I phoned my local TerraClean agent this morning and he came to my home this afternoon and SUCCESS :)

I used thenavman.com a couple of weeks ago and it worked like a charm. I was very happy with the results

Good for you. I am always wary of first time posters who praise a company.
