Matrix Headlights with main beam assist

Hi,

Since getting the car this has been my first opportunity to test out the Matrix headlights. The car is a 2021 50 tfsie. Driving down an un-lit road with the light switch set to Auto and the headlight lever pushed forward the instrument cluster shows a green headlight symbol and a blue headlight symbol with “Auto” written under it. (The main beam assist toggle is also activated in the MMI). If I drive into a lit up area the blue auto light changes to white and the headlights clearly dim or dip. This seems ok so far.
However back to the unlit road when I encounter a car coming towards me I can see some slight “dancing” of the beam but the oncoming cars start flashing as I still appear to be on high beam. It happened with every car I encountered so not a case of one overreactive driver. The blue auto light remains on throughout so there is no visual confirmation that the headlights have adjusted for the oncoming traffic.
My previous car, a Q3, also had main beam assist and it worked perfectly though it didn’t have matrix lights. Has anybody else experienced this problem?

Thanks

i do not have matrix lights but have similar issue. Auto dipping is a pain. most times it works for oncoming vehicles, but not always and when there is reflective chevrons at a corner it dips just when you don’t want it to
Quick update - I have just spoken to the dealer’s service dept and they advise me that my spec does not have “high beam assist” and only has “main beam assist” which doesn’t auto dip the headlights for approaching traffic. Have to say that I’m totally confused by their terminology and can find no reference to “high beam assist” in the manual. However, the description for “main beam assist” in the manual would suggest that the lights should be adjusting for approaching traffic. So, no further on🙁.
I have high beam assist (non-matrix), and it works fine for me. It will mess up if I interfere, just got to trust that it WILL dip every time. It shows on the dash the blue high beam icon turns off/changes. In your case I assume main beam assist, adjusts and cuts out parts of the beam where the oncoming cars etc are detected. But why would this not be included on high beam? If its now two separate options for high/main beam assist , Audi have taken the options list too far! Stupid Audi.

Thanks, yes that’s the way I think it should work. Despite what Audi say I do still think I have the option and they don’t understand their own terminology! I’m going to give it a few tries and if still not happy with it will leave it in to be checked.
