Hello,
I have a 2009 Q5 with 145k km 2.0tfsi engine.
Recently while idling (only!!) the car started misfiring and shaking. During load the car works perfectly fine. No engine lights have come out.
On top of that there is a constant rattling noise that is heard while idle, which seems to be very high up in the engine ( cam area ).
Took the car to the dealer they did the usual tests for spark plug, coils but none fixed the issue. They located the misfire coming ONLY for Cyl 2.
As such and considering also this rattle, they suggested opening the camshaft cover. When opened they found the intake camshaft, camshaft cover and camshaft sitting points lightly scratched and marked (attached some fotos).
I decided to take the fuel injectors for cleaning/testing and then to tie up everything. They were suggesting that the camshaft due to the marks might not be well seated causing this. Took the fuel injectors back and tied everything up and noise and misfire still there, but misfire now ONLY at Cyl 3.
I decided to listen at them into taking the whole engine cover together with the camshaft and all its parts to a specialist for chekcing. The specialist did the following:
1) Changed intake valves
2) Changed intake + exhaust valve sittings
3) Changed all lifters
4) Slightly smoothened the intake camshaft contact points
5) Cleaned areas intake + exhaust valves
After having done all that the dealer put everything back together and the noise and misfire is still there but now misfire ONLY at Cyl 4.
They now said that they found the oil pressure at idle at 0.7bar when it usually should be around 1.1bar..? No oil pressure light has come out!
They are now re-opening the engine with the hope of locating the problem...
Could it be something from the exhaust camshaft and variable lift system? Wouldnt this cause misfire in all Cylinders?
Could it be due to this lower oil pressure at idle? Are there any points to check?
Anyone has any ideas as car is already in for 2 weeks but we are back at point 0!!?
Many thanks for your help!
