Yes. There have been recalls in china for vw dsg and in the USA they have extended the warranty to 10 years on dsg boxes.

It is not possible that any dealer will not have seen these problems before and Audi uk are certainly aware.

Good luck.

Ps. It is very likely that just the mechatronic unit needs replacing.

Not good I'm afraid. Dealer has discounted by ÂŁ500 leaving me ÂŁ3500 to pay and Audi contributing...NOTHING! Dealer says its down to Audi and Audi says its down to the dealer to sort out good will gesture. The car has always had everything that the dealer has recommended so how I was supposed to do more I have, I cant imagine but I've asked them to think again. Poole Audi...the forum is watching to see if there really is value in supporting the Dealer Network through thick and thin.

Now its time to speak to customer services yourself and tell them that you are going to write to every motoring magazine, consumer organisation and motoring forum, and relay to them the story that their gearbox is "not fit for purpose" despite having full service history. Then you will pass this to your solicitor. Put it in writing/email. Don't give up. Your dealer has done their bit. Now its Audi's turn. They will want to protect their brand.

This "social bitching" doesn't work anymore, you see post after post on Twitter and Facebook and forums but it yields no results that i can ever recall... If you go down the legal route you need to have some cash to throw at it, YOU will need to PROVE it wasn't fit for purpose.

Have you tried another dealer, see if they have an opinion on it?
What will it cost to repair outside the dealer network?

from the desc, it doesn't sound like you have a pressure control valve issue.
do you have the fault code?

Snowman, you miss the point. No ome wants to go down the legal route, not even audi, nor do they want bad publicity. I am not talking about social bitching but stating the facts on a public forum or other media. If Audi beleive that you will do that, then they are likely to offer something as a good will gesture without admitting fault. And that is what we want to achieve. It is a game of bluff, I know, but its the only way. I read the Which consumers magazine and it is amazing how many companies settle before formalities begin. My earlier post describes how I got a free service from Ford on a 5 year old car. Before I did what I did I spoke to a Which lawyer and she said that with cars, merchantable quality is about 6 to 7 years life, so if the car is less than that age then its worth writing letters. I pay ÂŁ55 per annum for advice from Which lawyers. They give advice, so its good value and not expensive.

Sorry to hear the news to date. I'd still be inclined to consider trading the car in sooner than later.

I would consult a solicitor. Most give a free initial consultation.
Most also won't have the specialist knowledge required to take on an automotive case. They therefore have to do research and that is where the bills rack up.

Poole Audi have come back with a final offer of ÂŁ2500. Audi continue to say that its the dealer who decides the level of support as Audi support them. The dealer tells me that they have waved the labour charge completely, which if true suggests that they can do little more financially but its their customer service that will resolve this on my behalf...or not! Given that every case is viewed on an individual case, what more could I have done than have every service carried out, changed the gearbox oil as advised at 40k etc etc. Why do Audi support some of these 100% and I'm not at 50%? Litigation is a seriously expensive and time consuming experience but one that faced with a ÂŁ2500 bill I have no choice but to pursue. My contract is with the dealer, so its them that I will issue proceedings against. This shows more than ever why its the quality of your dealer that determines the outcome of these issues. It appears that Basingstoke Audi have a very good track record in getting these paid.

I thought the initial quote was ÂŁ4000, so 50% should be ÂŁ2000. In any event if 50%, then that is not a bad result, although I would have preferred 75%. You can bet that audi have contributed to it. Its just that they will never admit it. Personally, I would tell the dealership that if you can't get at least 75%, you will consult a consumer lawyer. Do it nicely. Ignore their "final offer" statement. Its just a negitiating tool. I am sure there will be another conversation with audi and an improved final, final offer. Remember its all about "merchantable quality".

Best of luck, and keep us informed.

After much to-ing and fro-ing Poole Audi have come up trumps and Audi will cover the FULL COST of the repairs. It goes to show two things in my opinion. 1) By having everything done at the Audi Centre including all the advisory items, its easy to prove that you couldn't have done anything else to protect yourself against such a failure.

Having a dealer who will work hard behind the scenes is vital. Well done to Poole Audi for looking after their customer and hats off to Audi for doing the right thing. Thanks to everyone for there opinions and advice in keeping me sane during this saga!
