Absolutely distraught............ phone call from the dealer on Friday. My private plate still has not been changed over and ists been over 2 weeeks now. Worst still, the dealers cant find out any info about the transfer so I am being the eternal pessimist and huessing all the paperwork has got lost either at the DVLA or in the post.

I despair. The car has been at the dealers for 3 weeks now just gathering dust. Supposedly when you local DVLA gets busy they pass the documents to other parts of the country - smart eh !!

Just don't know what to do.

When I did this 3 years ago I accepted the car with the supplied reg and took the paperwork in person to a DVLA office. Did take about 2 or 3 weeks to do.

Thanks Josh. The only reason i went down my route was that the garage said it would only take a week. Then i was oltd 2 weeks and now .................. well 3 weeks seems to be the guess.

I wait with bated breath.

I would have to go to the dealer once a day just to sit in the car, think i would do what josh suggested just take it with the 10 plate and then change it.

Likewise with Josh and Rapidcool i shall be accepting the car on its dealer supplied reg (60 for me!) and then swapping the plates afterwards.

Yay - docs have turned up and all ready for Saturday collection. So my hope that I would turn up last Friday and Saturday at the new VW Touareg preview and proving day in my brand new Q5 was not realised but I will be so glad to get my new Q5.

Let it be a warning to take it on the given number plate then transfer later - seems my documentation went to Preston - zas all you guys suggested. It took 2 days short of 3 business weeks to complete.

Incidentally, the new Touareg is a mean machine - 8 speed box, stop/start technology and loads of other goodies but as yet now UK spec.

Seems that sometimes the VW Audi Group does get it ideas all wrong. Thye are obviously so keen to get things going on their models the information on them is sadly lacking.

But hey - I am on the up and can't wait for Saturday !!!
