Just wondered if anyone felt it was likely that the engine from the Audi S4 might make it into the Q5 at some point?

I am looking for a Q5 for my wife but would like something that has strong performance, and although we were impressed with the diesel that we drove, my wife doesn't really want a diesel.

I think a turbocharged / supercharged engine would suit the nature of the Q5 better than the normally aspirated 3.2 V6, but am not sure whether the 2.0T would be sufficiently robust to cope with the extra weight in the Q5 (she currently has an A3 Sportback Quattro with the 2.0T engine).

Although it wouldn't be cheap, i think the S4 engine would be perfect.....

I might have to disagree with you on that one. My 2.0 TDI (170bhp)Stronic has got plenty of oomph. I am more than pleased with the acceleration and also handling on m'way and urban. Can't talk for the 3.0 of course or the S4 as I have never driven one but from my own perspective acceleration etc is fantastic. Unless, of course, they are planning an even meaner, sportier version...........................

Thanks for your comments.

Having borrowed the 2.0 S-tronic demonstrator from my local dealer for a few hours I was pleasantly surprised by the performance, however it does not offer (nor is designed to offer) what I would call genuinely 'strong' performance.

As this car is primarily for my wife, then performance is less of an issue, however as we would hope to use this car for longer trips (when I would be driving) then performance is more important to me.

I don't expect the car to perform like my 911 but would like something with sufficient poke to allow me to exploit overtaking opportunities, which is where I think the S4 engine would be perfect!

What about the V6 3.0 Tdi S tronic, which is what I've ordered.

0-60 6.5 secs and top speed 139.

More than enough power, good torque and reasonable fuel consumption.

haha I think he wants 911 performance in an Audi 4x4 - perhaps a Cayenne would be better !!

I never have any problem overtaking on the motorway or urban !! Just as well its not the Q7...................
