Hi
Can anyone give me some advise please on the fitted as standard on SQ5 electric auxiliary heater.
I tried to order it on my present Q5 3.0 tdi s line + but was told it wasn't an available option.

I typed it in on the web, but just get conflicting results. What I'd like to know is it the same as my mates RR sport he can defrost and warm up the interior from he's key. (really handing on those winter mornings)
I can't seem to find any info on it and what I can find seems quite confusing some say this and others say that. I'm hoping same of you more intelligent people on this wonderful forum can tell me.

The reason i'd like to know I've ordered SQ5 and it be great if it helps warm up the car on cold mornings seeing my lungs are shot. Cheers ( sorry if this as already been discussed)

No, it only comes on with the ignition to defrost quicker AFTER you are in the car.

The diesel auxiliary heater that has an extra key fob with 1000m range is not available as an option in the UK. It is in Belgium as Robin T has it fitted... You may be able to ask Audi to do it as a one off special but wouldn't like to guess the cost!?
If not you can get the exact same webasto (http://www.webasto.com/gb/markets-products/car/) diesel heater fitted after market by various specialists (I assume they would also be able to code the car so it's integrated into the MMI as well).

Thanks Jose at least I know now it's not the same as my mates. But must help in the cold weather.

Cheers

Can't say I've had a chance to test the defrost time yet, but I can say if you turn the climate control up to high as soon as you start it you get hot air pretty damn fast!

I wonder if the Audi actually heats the interior electrically (rather than using the engine coolant), motor manufacturers have been reducing cooling system capacities to faciliate rapid engine warm up and seeking electrical alternatives.

I have the auxilliary heater on my SQ5 but it is not electric, it burns fuel and can only be operated when the fuel tank level is above the reserve

My SQ5 was delivered 2nd April and we still had freezing temperatures at night.
I tried the heating and it is less powerfull than I thought.
I first programmed it to run for 15 minutes but that is not enough to defrost the windscreen.
When you programme it to run for 30 minutes it works well and the interior is also starting to get warm
When it runs for 45 minutes, the interior is at nice temperature.

But, running at 45 minutes is quite long, so I have it at 30 minutes.

It also makes quite some noise and produces quite some smelly exhaust gasses.

But, it works to deice the car without having to start the car and keep the engine running.
Also, because it comes with remote control, it is very easy to start it when you are still inside and you know about 30 minutes in advance when you will depart

This is a picture of the result of 15 minutes at freezing temperatures, the windscreen is not yet defrosting, that only starts after 20 minutes (and goes fast from that moment on):

Thanks for sharing that info Robin T sounds like not the best of pre heats out there.
But never the less it does have one, which must help a bit in cold weather.

I wonder with you getting your SQ5 in April I guess you must have ordered some months back and wonder if they have
changed the spec since then from oil burner to electric heater,

I have a March 13 3.0tdi S line + and in settings regarding auxiliary heater in the menu it only allows a auto mode or off, and in the cold snap I never noticed a rapid defrost, guess I'll have to wait till I get mine to see.

I see You have Ibis white with with silver/black. I've ordered Ibis but with no inserts, can I ask do they go well with the car? and are you you happy you chose it? Cheers

Hey Bonzoboy; well, it is just a matter of learning how much in front you need to switch it on. No idea whether they changed to electric; mine is certainly burning fuel

Regarding the seats, I love the look of the white inserts, but they tend to get dirty easily, luckily the dirt comes of quickly with a damp cloth

Bobzoboy, my a7 has an electric heater which is supposed to work when the aircon is on and at temperatures below 7C. I have not yet noticed any differene having the aircon on or off, so please let me know next winter if you have any luck.

The electric and fuel burning heaters are for different reasons... Robin you will have both. The electric will come on after the engine has started to warm the cabin/engine quicker. You can choose the electric heater setting as Auto or Off in the MMI. In Auto it will come on as needed on colder days until the engine has warmed up, the same as shabazmo's A7 will.
The electric is standard equipment on most diesel Audis as far as I know as modern diesels are really inefficient until they warm up...
The fuel heater is only available in really cold markets (not the UK) and is for defrosting before the car is started and has a separate key remote.

*deep sigh*

It's clearly shown in the user manual - and also in the MMI, and all over the internet, and in the Audi literature... It is only for diesel models... Maybe you have a petrol?

I see you have been a member for all of 45 minutes - you are an authority on Q5 features then?

So it is on petrol and diesel - whatever... You said it is non-existent! Now you are showing a page that it is!

Please explain the option in the MMI and described in the manual for supplementary heater! It is clearly stated as being electrical. I will guarantee you are wrong!

If you read this thread and many other threads on the internet, along with official Audi documentation in full you will clearly see there are two different types of heater - I think you are confused...

I hope you are a receptionist and not a salesman/technician at Audi so I can forgive you for this error.

Well if you work for Audi then we should all change manufacturer!
The site you have suggest above is NOT an official Audi site and suspect could house suspect information.
I am forwarding your aggressive replies to Professor Rupert Stadler as totally out of order.
This will I hope bring to his attention how some of his employees bring the Audi name into disrepute.

You are missing the point... the ELECTRIC supplementary heater does exist - which you said does not! Then you contradicted yourself but posting the screenshot of the part numbers!

Whether it is available in a petrol car is not the big deal... It is more common on diesel (Audi or not). I'm happy to bow to your superior knowledge on this point!

What is a separate thing, is the auxiliary heater, which burns fuel and is designed to be turned on before you get in the car so it is already defrosted.

Plenty of other people with long signatures on here... I just pasted the spec from the confirmation email the dealer sent me... Thanks for noticing!

Fasinating, but I think there are language and cultural barriers rather than intentional winding up. We just need to remember that the forum is world wide and that Bye Bye could be endearing or abrupt etc.

#18 ·
The bye,bye is the least of the worries here. The blatant misinformation is a larger concern...

In the UK I asked Aberdeen Audi about the heater which is not in the market here, but can be fitted as an extra by an approved vendor which happens to be Charlie Taylors in Aberdeen. They are great things when working all year round but don't let them sit idle from year to year.
The good advantage is the timer and key fob so the car can be clear in the winter months.

The A3 has the heater as standard but this is just to help heat the car faster when on the move, but not sure if it can be programmed to come on remotely.

Totally off topic - but Doug, I see you had your Q5 superguarded - I have as well, and TBH am not overly impressed, but also have no comparison...

I have looked after the car for the 5 weeks of ownership (its had 3 professional cleans and 2 by myself - all using superguard shampoo/polish to maintain the sealant etc). But despite this it doesn't seem to really bead the water that much etc.
I read that the way it is applied has a massive effect so maybe my valet just wasn't up to scratch....

Wondered what your thoughts were on it? Did you pay for it yourself and would you again etc?

Feel free to start a new topic so others can also give their pennies worth

I never had lifeshine applied to my previous A3, but after a few bad experiences with bird lime damage I bought PDI lifeshine kit off eBay which was only about ÂŁ15. It contained all the necessary products to do the body, windows upholstery etc and it definitely helped protect the paint. I had it applied on the Q5 at the dealers this time and it seems to be lasting pretty well so far.

If you check eBay out there are plenty of people selling these kits. Mine was a sealed box. I have heard some people were just refilling old bottles but mine was definitely the real deal. I will be buying another pack when I feel mine needs doing again.

Hi chaps, made some changes to my spec the other week (deleted advanced parking & added 21" alloys) and had a fiddle with the configurator...if you print / view the associated PDF for your config (SQ5), it lists a standard code - 7E6 - electric auxiliary heater. I asked what that was and got a not entirely clear/helpful "...it just seems to be completing the interior heating system".... So I'm not clear if its a new standard addition or just 'confirming' what's already there....

It is the above mentioned electric heater which has been standard for some time... It is to help warm up the car quicker AFTER it is started.

NB - in case you were wondering, my out of context posts in this thread are due to a plonker being booted and his posts being deleted!
