Any recommendations for where to buy some detailing supplies, im after:

Snow foam
Meguiars #83 Speed Glaze
Meguiars #21 (or #20) sealant
3M Scotch blue tape

and possibly another bar of clay

So with that little lot being ?50-?60, can anyone recommend any good places to get it from?

Hi Rich, yes im going to machine polish the other halfs car.

As for wax and sealant, technically you can use either, the wax is the "natural" purist method, the sealant is the hi-tech method which should last longer, and the combination of wax over sealant is for people with waaaay too much time and money who visit concourse shows and have to have the ultimat blingy shine!

I have sealant for most things, and am considering some dodo juice wax for the Q5 when it arrives

Hi
I tend to cheat a bit nowadays .Much easier to clean a white car , than the last black one.
Every couple of months i will jet, degrease, snow, wash, polish then wax - all megs except wax(collinite 915).
But all i do every week is use the foam lance and put a couple of cm of snowfoam ,and a squirt of megs shampoo in.
Then top up with hot water , cover whole car .Wash mitt it all over , then rinse.dry ,and collinite again.
Keeps it tip top.
Wheels all off every 6 months and 2 layers of rim wax , means most dirt just jets off with a light spraying of Bilberry wheel
cleaner.
Jobs a good un.

I do enjoy haveing a clean car though.

Lovely and deep shine Rich.

I was considering the dodo juice Purple Haze soft wax or the Blue Velvet hard wax for the black Q5.

3 stage megs is good, but its bloody hard work by hand!!

I ordered some new kit today to complement the G220, some #80 speed glaze cutting polish, and some #21 synthetic polymer sealant, a new clay bar and some snow foam. Not cheap but should have good results.

Excuse my lack of knowledge ....... but what do you do with a clay bar?
Josh - a clay bar removes any tar or paint (or other hard to remove materials) from the paint work without damaging the paintwork. Its definitely worth trying out - wash you car and dry it then run you hand down the paintwork - it will feel nice, but you will feel bits on it - run the claybar over it once and feel it again - it will be like silk

Kaine is entirely correct and in addition to the tar and overspray paint that may be on the surface it also lifts and removes surface contaminants from the pain, that could be anything from ash and powerstation fallout to tree sap. If you run your finger over the surface before claying you will find it drags and feels rough, after claying the surface will be glassy smooth and your finger will glide over the surface. This is when its ready for polishing then sealing or waxing
