And there I was just about to trade my A4 Avant in against a Touareg and then this comes along and whets my appitite.

First impressions are good and if it isn't quite as big as a Q7 but about the size of an X3 with Audi build quality then I might jus tbe in the queue...........mind you then there is the Q3 to think about too....oh decisions, decisions......

Hi Jim,

Welcome to the forum - I'm currently in an A6 Allroad but want to go back to a 4x4 style car hence the Q5 seems the perfect choice for me. The Q7, although a great car, is too big and only works with the larger 4.2tdi imho. If you not looking to change until the end of the year then the Q5 is definetely worth the wait imo

This car is for me...trade my 07 CRV for a Q5 early 09 hopefully

I'm waiting to see if a 2.0Ltr TDI will start to be available then with the 7speed DSG...I don't want the TFSI and the 3.0Ltr TDI really isn't necessary is it for the daily commute ? Any rumours on a 2.7 TDI ?

Have to agree with Kaine here..........Really looking forward to seeing how the engines and gearboxes pan out. Having had a couple of 2.0tdi Audi's I'm looking forward to a smoother 2.7 or 3.0 with an entertaining and involving DSG box....

All depends on the final price I really hope they don't push the price to high, I don't mind paying a premium over the A4 but if we get into the high 30's then we are approaching X5 & RR territory....and surely there has to be a big difference between Q5 price and the Q7!

Does anyone know if the Co2 emmission figures have been released or available anywhere, relly interested to know what they are going to be as this will obviously have a huge imp[act on the company car market with the tax implications. Cant wait to get a good look at one especially the S Line spec.

Cheers

For a rough idea can we not look at the figures for the engines as used in other models. From launch I believe its going to be 2.0 Ltr TDI with manual gbox / 3.0 Ltr TDI with DSG 7 speed / 2.0 Ltr TFSI with DSG 7 Speed.
All are used in a current model - except the 2.0 Ltr TFSI which will come with the new A4 Avant towards the end of the year.
Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong on that.
I've heard / read that the new 7 speed S-tronic DSG thing actually gives a better emissions score than a manual gbox..

2.0 TDI is automatic but only 6 gears, the dsg 7 gear is only availible on the other two engines..

would that be tiptronic or multitronic.....multitronic not too reliable is it ?
I hope the 2.0ltr TDI is available with a self shifter...I thought it would be only manual having read the Audi press releases.
I don't want a manual and the 2.0 ltr TDI would be my first choice of engine but having assumed an auto box was not available on this engine was putting me off

Probably a good starting point i agree but historically SUV's even with the same engines tend to have a higher Co2 figure than there traditional counterparts and id heard that the 2.0 TFSI engine was new. I hope it is true abouth the new DSG gearbox and the emissions as this would make the 2.0 TFSI with the DSG gear box and paddle shifts a very appealing proposition, especially in S Line finish? Fingers crossed on that one then. I suppose we will just have to wait and see what the official specs are going to be from Audi when they release them. Very frustrating not knowing though as a company car driver as ultimateley they could make all the difference.

2009 S4 will sport the brand new twin-clutch changer found in the new S5 which Audi fancily refers to as S-Tronic rather than what big brother VW calls it; DSG. Same thing. Except S-Tronic changes at 200ms under S4 guidance, weighs 40kg more than the 6-speed changer but yet performs faster and is C02 cleaner as well.
have to agree the petrol with the DSG is starting to look quite a nice combo - especially as petrol is now cheaper than diesel here in France - first time in 7 years....

anyway all speculation / conjuncture and rumour until we get some specifications from Audi
