Hi AnniePower- I wish I could say welcome as you have now joined the club of 'clangers'. But this is one club nobody wants to be a member of but were joined against our expectations by Audi. It's crazy that some cars are ok, some are ok at new but like you develop the noise later and some have the noise right from the start. Please report this to your dealer as this will be logged against your car for a fix within the warranty-- if they ever find a fix. Don't take your car in for a replacement servo as this has not cured the noise for most people, and you may lose your car for weeks like SINGHY.
Audi cannot hide their heads in the sand for much longer over this. But it seems they are continuing to churn out clanger after clanger from their Mexico plant with no information to the dealers or customers as to what they are doing or going to do to resolve the problem. I am certainly not going to live with this noise as long as I have the car just because Audi are dragging their heels for a resolution. I've phoned the dealer twice since having my servo replaced asking what Audi are doing and will continue to do so. But of course the dealer cannot give me an answer saying it's in the hands of Audi technical dept. Time to move further up the ladder I think.

Good morning , yes very strange it has started after 2,000 miles, if you are not getting any joy from Audi customer services or dealer the path to go down is ask them to put you in touch with the Audi executive office that certainly gets the ball rolling ! . I will log mine with the dealership but like you say it's pointless taking it in if no cure yet .

Yes it a good idea to log it with the dealership even if there is no cure for this fault. It is so outrageous that Audi know that their new Q5 has a fault but don't even acknowledge the fact, I think that they just hope we will give up and the problem will disappear. Hardly the action of a so called prestige car manufacturer. My dealer say they have passed on the problem to 'Audi Germany' what ever that means. I suspect that this problem only effects the RHD version of the Q5 and with the RHD market being the 'poorer cousins' they are simply not that bothered.

So it seems Audi are still sending clangers out of Mexico to the rest of the world, and the issue is present in left handers too. Somebody at Audi is going to have to come out of their locked and darkened office at some point and finally admit--we have a problem.
I know it would be hard to do after waiting so long for your shiny new car, but now that this fault is known, customers should check the pedal before accepting and signing for their new car. If it's a clanger they should refuse to accept the car. If more people did this, it may waken up Audi who up till now seem to be just ignoring the problem, to get this issue resolved. I wish I had known about this before I signed for mine.

Wondered if this issues is on other models other than Mexican Q5s

I don't think I have ever seen a report of this problem on LHD Cars...?

Morning all , I put on the forum that I had the clank last Wednesday it's now Saturday and it's never done it since ,no wonder it's a head scratcher,if you take it to the dealership you could be driving for hours with a technician and the bloody thing still might not clank.

Hi AnniePower-- this is why this whole issue is so frustrating. Why do some owners have no issues, while others have the noise from new. Are the servos ( if this is the problem ) being produced to the same spec, or is there a problem during assembly of the car in Mexico. I am still suspicious of the bracket at the top of the pedal in earlier photos consisting of the black bracket with holes drilled in its side with the white 'plastic' lining. I reckon the amount of return from the rod coming from the servo needs to be reduced to stop it clanging against the casing. BUT -- who am I ? Just somebody who has inherited a bunch of problems after spending over 40 grand. I really wish Honda would make an enlarged version (Q5 size) of their HRV to a luxury level. I would go back no probs.

Hi,
I test drove the TDI a fortnight ago and a TFSI last week - RHD, Australian market. I couldn't hear any clanging noises during my drive in the diesel while it was clearly irritably audible in the petrol. I raised this to the sales person and according to 2 of them, this noise was normal!!

I basically told the sales person that I'm not paying $AUD 90k for a car that sounds like a can opener. Upon researching through this forum, I was very disappointed to hear Audi still cannot address this issue. It's a real pity because I had my heart and mind set on the Q5 because it met a number of criteria I'm looking for in a luxury SUV - size, technology, comfortable ride. I might consider the Q5 again if this issue was addressed because it was such an impressive quiet ride.

I experienced a couple of other problems in both test drives around the MMI system. Will post these in another topic and would love to hear if anyone experienced these issues too.

Hi tigglie - well if this noise is going to be classed as 'normal' and Audi are happy to sell clangers as luxury SUV's. I'm afraid I cannot see me going through the next few years of ownership listening to a tin can being hit every time I release my brakes. Making the cabin so quiet may have had a detrimental effect on the car as any noise which may have gone unnoticed in an average cabin, is now heard and becomes annoying very quickly. I've said previously that Audi really need to get this car sorted out fast. Some cars seem to be ok according to other members, while other cars ( mines included) arrive with numerous niggles, the main one being the clanging brake pedal. The more potential customers that tell dealers they are not going place an order till this problem is sorted the better. I can't believe that Audi are seemingly ignoring this problem. I had my servo replaced, but the problem is still there and lack of communication from Audi shows a lack of concern for affected customers.
I highlighted this problem in a recent survey which was sent to me on behalf of Audi. I have had no responce from them. I like the car but this clanging has taken away the initial excitement I felt on the day I picked it up. Other issues which should have been picked up in Q/A have been sorted either by the dealer or myself. This just shouldn't be happening on a ÂŁ40000 plus so called luxury car..
As it stands just now, I see this car as a better than average SUV but not in the luxury sector due to the amount of plastic being used inside and out, along with the fit and finish issues people are having.
Try laying underneath the car and press up on the various protective panels. It's no wonder there are knocks and noises with all those thin covers fitted. Yep- all this comes with a ÂŁ5000 price increase over the similat mk1 model.

I owned a hyundai and Nissan before and owned for about 8-9 years each. Apart from MOT and usual service there has been no issues whatsoever and MOT had passed all the time without any major work. Surely not as comfy or powerful or 'luxurious' as Q5 but no niggles. I don't expect German cars to be as bullet proof as Japanese but these issues should have been ironed out.

Guys what's the latest with this? Has a fix been found? @SINGHY have you had your car back yet?

Anyone else noticed noise isn't there etc.

@Justanhonestman how can I check this easy without taking the car off the forecourt? ????????

Hi Nemo-- if it's the brake pedal noise you are referring to, you must take the car out for a test. The reason I say this is because if the car is staitionary and the brake pedal has been pumped a few times- the noise will not be evident. I visited a dealership just to see if the Q5 in their showroom had the same problem. The brake pedal was solid due to people pressing the pedal whilst looking around the car. There has been no word from either Audi or the dealership as to what they are going to do with the problem or if they are actually trying to find a resolution or fix for what it seems is a widespread problem. And it seems more and more owners are experiencing rattles, cluncks and noises around the two thousand miles mark. I've not had the best introduction to Audi, but I love the car and feel proud driving it with its raised height and quiet cabin etc etc. BUT the niggles I am getting just should not be there on a car of this price point.

Are you sure this noise is not from operator error? I can replicate this noise on my tfsi if I tap the pedal quickly and release but on normal driving where brake pedal pressure is released in a controlled manner I never have the noise as described. Thoughts??

Absolutely not!
The Q5 brake pedal 'clang' can not be avoided.
I even went through a period of denial pretending there was nothing wrong and would carefully release the brake pressure to avoid the 'clang' but with out success!
In my case the 'clang' has been very intermittent and would be fine for two hundred miles or so then "Clang'!! I managed to get a recording on one occasion and on an other demonstrate it to the senior technician at the dealership who acknowledged that there is a fault. After two replacement brake servos the fault is still apparent.
The latest news, as per Audi customer services, is that Audi Germany acknowledge the fault exists and are looking for a solution.
After six months I'm no longer holding my breath for a solution and my faith that Audi is a company that respects its customers is waining.

Sorry you can't.
It can be very intermittent and the 'Clang' may not show its self for hundreds of miles at a time then come back with a vengeance!
I can't find any pattern or particular circumstances that will trigger it.
