Well just got my new quote from Privilege..it certainly is not a privilege anymore after 8 years with them, its gone from ?40 a month to ?60 a month, so I did the usual searches and got quotes from comparison sites, managed to get AXA for ?44 a month which is good ( I have 9 years NCB, only 7k a year and the car is now 15 months old) I could have got cheaper but most wouldn't insure me as I work for the Ministry of Sound
(apparently Record companies are a no no for most) I even tried Chris Knott but they woudl insure me for the same reason......can you believe it !

Bizarre
You'd have thought the fact that you've got so many years of no claims would have some influence.

I had same problem with Privilege many years ago.....never went back. Can't you just declare your job....manager,technician etc and leave out that it's connected to the music business?

I know someone in the insurance business, believe me DO NOT leave anything out or lie, it's amazing what information your insurers can get on you!

But on a plus side Rahoo, it must be cool working for the Ministry of Sound!

I have just renewed mine last week having extended my cover for a few months from my A4 Avant. I have 9yrs NCD but do 10-12k miles a year. The renewal quote I had was on the high side but I changed to LV for ?400 a year. Mine isn't an S-Line though and I suspect that bumps it up a bit.

yeah it is quite the cool job, after all those years wasted spending cast amounts of money here in the 90s, to be working for them is a real turnaround

Hi Rahoo
Every year the insurance goes up,im with LV and it currently is ?330 this is with 9 years no claims and im hoping to get it and a similar cost when the renewal comes up, ive been with LV for a few years now and they seem to keep their prices competetive.

Hi,

I've been with Elephant for several years now. About ?370 full comp, 10+ years no claims + 2 named drivers.
The only downside, is that each year i have to go online to their own web site to see how cheap it should be. The renewal they send out NEVER matches the online price (by over ?150 this year
!!!)
But a quick(ish) call to moan about it and they agree to match their own online price

Compare the Market shows LV as the best, but Elephant are close enough not to bother transferring.

Cheers,

Mike.

While we're talking about insurance, can anyone explain this to me.

I'm with Priv as well, and essentially last month I went from a 3 yr old A6 Avant 2.7L TDI Auto to my Q5 3.0L TDI Auto. I rang Priv and changed all the car details, including amending the value from the 20K or so I had on the A6 up to the purchase price of the Q5. My insurance renews on the 31st Dec every year (handy I know) yet they said there was NO CHANGE to the cost of my policy for the rest of the year...I really don't understand that, and it's made me check the revised paperwork that turned up several times to make sure everything is correct.

Any ideas?

I'm sure that come renewal time they will recoup any additional insurance cost plus the new cost. I've never known an insurance company to do an increase with a new car mid term......but they will remember

Not sure if this is relevant but was shopping around for a renewal quote on my TTS in May, I was giving an annual mileage of 8-10K per year. Only by accident I discovered the best quote was with AUDI insurance when they suggested I stay with the annual average of 12K. So the lowest annual mileage most definately does not give the lowest price for the year.

I see what you're saying, but surely that doesn't make good business sense, as I'll probably just see the price go up and go somewhere else....so they lose money they could have taken off of me for the rest of the year.

I've been with Direct Line for 7 years, but SWMBO got a speeding ticket and the price went up from ?420 to ?590. Wen to LV= and it was ?422, including legal, hire car and up to 180 day Europe Cover, needless to say I am now an LV= customer.....

Just to add some info people may find useful after the delivery of their car (has been discussed under the topic 'my car is a write off').

Direct line was the cheapest for me (close to Elephant / Admiral) but Direct Line do a new for old in the 1st 12 months. And so i took out GAP replacement insurance as recommended on this site from here: https://www.surfandprotect.com/motor/gapinsurance/private/cars/replacement/default.asp and now effectively though Direct Line and the linked insurance for ?318 one off fee i think it was I will get paid in cash the full replacement cost of my car should it be stolen / written off etc in the 1st 5 years of owning it. I thought that a good deal. Obviously the value is in years 3-5 mainly. But the GAP insurance will cover the VAT rise, any AUDI price rises etc so you won't be out of pocket if your car gets stolen say in 3 years time. You just get the cash replacement value (direct line pays the current market value and the GAP insurance pays the difference between this and a new car cost) which you can spend on whatever you want. For a ?45k Q5 and annually paying ?700 a year on insurance anyway I thought that good value. May be of interest to others.

My A4 Avant is up for renewal this month and I've re-worked each quote for the Q5 as-well because I don't want to go with the cheapest company now who'll sting me in a few months. Was really surprised to find a new ?34k Q5 was 50 to 60? cheaper across the board than a 57 plate Avant, same engine and both SLine??? Happy days

Also, what do people think about GAP insurance, especially with a car that has a used market value practically the equivalent of new?

I have just aksed for a quote from Audi on my S Line Spec Ed I got in May as my insurance is up soon and was quoted ?364.

Currently with LV - be interested to see what they come up with but Audi seem to do all the "extras" and more plus can use Audi garages and not "preferred repairers".

As I get more quotes it will be interesting how my 7 yr protected NCB is taken into account etc

Did you actually speak to them or do it online, when we spoke to them they gave a cheaper quote than online
