What's so many upset about. You've brought the the car because you think its the bees knees. Who in there right mind would get upset with some pleb who reviews a car and scores it not to clever. Take What Car they gave the Rolls Royce Ghost a 3 star because it's a little firm at low speeds in town (that's fair enough for a roller you wouldn't expect that, but to loose points because it is awkward to park takes the biscuit.

Clarkson banged on about the GT40 only because he had one (for a while anyway) while the other two donuts took the pis!. Top Gear their review of the SQ5 states if the evoke had a similar model would you buy the SQ5 answer NO - where have we heard that recently.

Then you have the review of the x3 35M (what car again) giving that 5 stars, banging on how its lower emissions, better efficiency cheaper to buy and better feed back on the steering than the SQ5 that's fair enough, but they don't mention you need to buy this car with the damper control option (not bothered to see what the costs are on that) otherwise it drives like shit. You wouldn't mind those commients on the X 3 if they also stated the negatives apart from the transmission tunnels a bit wide for the passenger sitting in the middle at the back and the manual gear box is a bit notchy. say if you buy this car without the damper control option you've brought a wrong un
I've had 3 Q5 just about to get my 4th, I don't really care what others think, or it shouldn't be a S model, Audi think it should be for what ever reason they dicided (dough springs to mind,) it good enough for me.
PS
Cars was always based on a 0- 60 in the past and a 5.1 to 62 must give it a 4.9 to 60 that's Worthy of a S badge surely.

Again the dicks at What Car in the section at the back rate all the cars on a 0 to 60 with the speeds listed at 0 to 62 and options that don't come as standard mainly because they can't be arsed to find out what the real facts are, are you really worried what these so called motor critics think Nuff said.

Very well said John and Bonzoboy! Couldn't agree more myself now I think about it; media and mags these days don't have the facts or information an owner needs no matter how respected they are.
Autocar, whatcar and Top Gear! What I found interesting is with the release of the Alpina xd3 base price of ÂŁ55,000 with pretty much identical figures to the SQ5, that gets 5 * ratings when it is 10k more and SQ5, which some say is poor value for money gets 3 *.

Hey Ho, what can we do! Advice I have learnt from this? Test drive the car yourself and don't listen to BS by any other jumped up journalists.

Guys some of you are starting to sound really bitter and nasty - its just not needed...
It just doesn't matter if the X3 or evoke is generally seen as better.. you pay your money, you take your choice.

As for Jurno, of course they are not experts, whoever thought they were?
They are meant to represent the normal driver in all of us..

The range rover sport was tasty on TG and with handling to match the performance - hence the sport!

You know, I'm starting to agree Snow Man. Folks, we just don't need to trash journalism as a profession. You may not always like the review but some of the guys who work for the motoring mags have lifelong commitment to their craft. It's simply offensive to act like this and really immature.

Enjoy your Q5's or your SQ5's. I intend to when mine arrives. I hope all of those who've chosen an X3 or an Evoque enjoy their choice too. Stop whinging and complaining that not every single person in the motoring world wants to give the SQ5 5 stars.

Still don't agree with you on everything though Snow Man - it so is an 'S'

Hi Bonzoboy - when did top gear review the SQ5? Was it on the show or magazine ?

the problem with most if not all car reviewers is that they drive cars for a few hours and only consider them as toys to have fun with, certainly if it carries an S badge.
this does not reflect reality, 99.9% of the cars are bought for every day use and other characteristics are more important, such as comfort.

I agree that the SQ5 does not provide driving sensation in terms of drifting, wheelspin and other unrealistic driving experiences
but it does provide a very good combination of speed, sound and comfort/practicality for everyday use
I had a VXR model before and it was a lot of driving sensation, but impossible to have as your car for everyday use, too tiring.

should it carry the S badge, not really, but is helps sales and I like having it on the back of the car
I was one of the first to buy the Cayenne diesel in 2009 and all media were screeming Porsche would go to hell, now nobody cares anymore

the (S)Q5 is just a very good car to drive every day

Fat Belly Budda - Snow Mans answered that question it was on line review.

Agree with that Robin.

Agree also Snow Man I came across abit childish there, I didn't mean to sound bitter, I can take any critism whether it be about me or the car I drive, just think some of these reviews and the reviewers are rubbish and not just on the SQ

Now I don't want to sound negative here and totally agree Snow Man the RR sport review on TG was really good the car looks very capable off road and on it, but why test the V8 five litre petrol supercharged version, you would expect that to be a bit sporty or at least pretty fast, it may have been that's all they had available to him, (trying to think positive here) but that model has to be a 70 / 80k car you would expect something special sonia included wouldn't you. Having said that you can't take nothing away from the car.

No more moans promise, well that doesn't include my late delivery saga.

Haha same here! My apologies for even starting this topic, however it did get all our anger out so in some ways it was a success :)
Somtimes we need to have a moan to keep us healthy hehe!

Have to say I agree the new RR Sport did look tasty. But Snow Man is right it's in a different class and a lot more money. In fact I think I could have 2 of mine for one of those as tested on TG.

And being an RR product the beauty/gloss will just be skin deep and a visit to the LR dealer will only be one more niggly fault away. At least Audi engineer most of the bugs out before we get to find out....

Thanks snow man & Bonzoboy. Agreed the RR looks pretty special, performs brilliantly and for those of you who've been in one (even the old one) will know its quite a special place to be. However....I'd prefer to have the understated, non footballer, reliable Q5. It doesn't shout "look at me"... Additional bonus of not having to spend half your life in the garage getting warranty work done.

Having said that, my friends RR developed a "fault" which involved a novel solution; a warning light kept coming on advising of low diesel in the auxiliary heater...trouble was...one wasn't fitted. So JLR decided to fit one as they couldn't turn the warning light off!!

Haha love that story

Over here in Australia most of the journo's tested the SQ5 in Tasmania where they hold the targa Tasmania each year. Most of them rated the car very highly. In the latest edition of motor magazine(one of our Aussie mags)they compared the SQ5 to a new 340kw VF HSV senator sedan. They loved the SQ5 and rated it a 8.5 out of ten. The only reason the HSV got a 9 was because its $20000 cheaper. Coming from a 500kw FPV F6 310 sedan(ford)I thought that I would miss its power and handling. I've had the SQ5 for 6 weeks now and the only thing I find it lacks is a better suspension setup(handling wise). I live in a mining town in central Queensland and the roads around here can be very ordinary at times. The standard 20s soak up the bumps without any dramas. Two friends of mine have RR evoques, one a petrol and one a 140kw Deisel. Having driven them,as far as I'm concerned they have nothing on the SQ5. As far as opinions go be it motor journo's or anyone else, they are entitled to them and each to their own. I know that I love my SQ5 and all my friends and family think its a great car(the misses loves it because she can get to sleep in the comfy front seat in no time at all, women hey).
