Just purchased a new Q5 2.0 TDI Quattro Sport 5dr S Tronic with 9" 5 arm wing design alloy wheels - I want to fit a tow bar to it and wanted to ask if anyone has had any experience of doing this on the new model. What I know so far is
  • The Q5 is preped for a tow bar (which I think means its wired ready for one)
  • The tow bar needs to be compatible with a 13pin Al-ko hitch
  • I have had a quote of a local fitter who I have used before of £500 plus VAT for a Bosal removable swan neck
  • I had an online quote from Mobile fitters Tower express for a removal swan neck for £650 inc Vat

Has anyone any other ideas, experience and should I consider Audi as a fitter

Thanks

AFAIK Westfalia make Audi's towbars so I'd probably try to get one of their's - if available.

Audi will probably charge you nearer £2K to supply and fit and sometimes they'll farm the work out to towbar specialists anyway.

Hi, I replied on this topic, (see below). I've been chasing Westfalia by phone and recently at the NEC Caravan Show, they got back to me to say Audi have not yet given approval! They now forecast the kit will be available in December and assured me I will be informed as soon as they are released. Hope this helps?

Hi Simonb,

I've been in contact with 3 local tow bar fitting specialists, there are tow bars already available from other manufactures for the new Q5 but the fitters all strongly advised to wait until October when Westfalia kits to become available.
I'm told fitting is fairly straightforward as are the electrics and the coding, should take 2 hours max.
